Poppy appeal Wimborne.

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

to-day saw the commencement of the poppy appeal in Wimborne today in keeping with tradition the Mayor brought the first poppy (after i brought mine)

As per usual quite a small turnout of vehicles, (eight ) .vehicle but sadly a few of the veterans not in attendence.

The chap in my jeep Alan (?) was a catalina pilot in Singapore and Burma.

The morning was also to promotethe local drama society`s play Journey`s end by R.C. Sherriff at the Tivoli theater 31/10/07 till 3/11/07 some of the actors attended in Johns GMC.

After a short parade through the town to the center and lining up, the town cryer gave his speech with a warning that those who give the ultimate sacrifice in all conflicts should never be forgotten.

Some pictures to enjoy.

It seems strange to me,

or am i the one whose is strange but this event along with what i classify as a HMVF event at Poole Park, are the only two that happen for the Poppy appeal locally.

This is despite many attempts by interestred parties but the Local RBL from what i understand really do not want to know ??

I agree Ashley as I did try last year to get some MVs to Dorchester or Blandford.....RBL said well we just have to time to get that sorted - I said that I would do all of the sorting.....no answer. Seems crazy to me.

But we pick up our poppy box this week as we do a couple of villages :-D

Ashley, unfortunately your spot on. I have spent many hours this year trying to get local RBL's to 'get their butts in action' but it's like trying to heard cats :dunno: no, I think it is far more difficult than that.

I have spoken to RBL chairmen, secretary's, poppy organising bod's, local council officials............all say 'sounds like a good idea' but NO ONE WILL COMMIT THEMSELFS FURTHER :computerterror: I am afraid I have admitted defeat - and that is something I rarely do. (Talk to rank and file members and they don't seem surprised by this result :dunno: )

In general they appear to not want to make any changes - to difficult, extra work, I don't know. I stated that I was willing to put the thing into action and do the leg work, broad selection of vehicles all ready and drivers keen and waiting, if they just say yes turn up at so&so time at so&so place or yes lets talk. Very disheartening.

But like Jack I will be collecting a tray of poppies (including th ebig ones for vehicles - Poole Park attendees please note) and collecting tin and we will do our usual area.

Sorry if this all sounds a bit 'down' but it has been so frustrating :indifferent:
