Nice, exactly what i was looking for.
Now vi just need some measurements of the wiring "clip"

And the screw, is it a screw or a bolt?
It is listet in the parts list whit the same part No as the screw for the chain guard.. So the must be Identical.

I don't think the parts list is right here, haven't checked my P/L's yet though. what is the hole size in the forks?, the rear chainguard is 1/4" from the top of my head?

I don't think you could use a 1/4" bolt on that clip. Far too big. I've used a 2BA (nut on the outside) Originally it was probably a 3/16" BSC which is near enough the same as 2BA.   Ron

3/16 x 24 BSW same as the screw for the chain guard on engine end of the guard...

Hi Gents.

So I have now had a brief look at the dimensions, my digital calipers have stopped working but I have tried to be as accurate as possible. I normally deal in MM but I have tried to convert to Imperial 🙈

Screw thread length = 26/64”

The part is flared:-

The largest exterior diameter = 15/16”

The inner part of the exterior flare = 7/8”

Inner diameter = 3/4”

Width = 1/2”

Screw hole = 13/64”

Just to be sure, I also need the thicknes of the material?

And then we can have a batch of them made .

Steve the rear brake rod is easy. It's a standard 1/4" with a 26tpi BSC thread.

The front rod is 5/32" with a 3BA thread.  ((4mm rod might do?)

But this guy is good with BA stuff / taps&dies and might be able to help with suitable rod.

Ron, am just measuring this now, and I find my original is not BA, but 5/32" x 32 tpi. So a Model Engineer thread, can someone confirm? as we're having some repro's made.

5/32" X 32 TPI ME (tracytools.com)

Cheers,

Lex

I've just double checked both the male and female threads on my brake rod with a 3BA screw and nut and both spin on freely. My rod was on the bike when I bought it but as it was missing the top adjuster, it's very probably a repro from Metal Magic.

There is less than half a thou between 3BA and 5/32" and the tpi is very slightly different, so I guess the two won't screw together without force.

  • 1 year later...

Since completing this restoration I have spend most days looking for the correct decompression lever and air maze filter. The bike is so orginal I felt these last few details would finish of a nice project. With an airmaze filter purchased some months ago I finally found the decompression lever (well most of one)

A Christmas miracle!
