Hamble
Hi all, I've set up a website to share photos of WW1 Wagon, Cart and Vehicle Data Plates (like the Officers Mess one below) . Either on or off the vehicles and the information around the plates. https://militarydataplates.com/ww1-vehicle-plates/ It has a few data plates from my personal collection, but I'd love if anyone has any photos of data plates they'd be willing to have shared on the website. Please post them as comments or email me at: militarydataplates@gmail.com For each plate if you could mention the vehicle it is off, any history about the plate/vehicle and if the plate is still on the vehicle, a photo of the vehicle itself with the plate visible as well would be great. Also if you have any feedback or things that could be added to the website please let me know. Many thanks, Hamble
Great War truck
A great idea. Here are a couple. One of mine and a friends. I know nothing else about them.
Great War truck
Three more from our 1918 US FWD Model B truck. The FWD data plate and the Ordnance plate are from the scuttle. The Ordnance plate was only fitted to US Army vehicles. The British FWD did not have them. A replica of an original body plate made International Harvester. This was fitted to the outer front panel of the body. Interestingly, the original one this was copied from was a B Type body but the plate states it is an A Type. A mistake in selecting the correct plate or just out of B Plates when they stamped the number?

Very interesting thank you for the information. Might try making a list of all the cart and wagon manufacturers with the abbreviations they used on the plates unless such a list already exists. 7 minutes ago, Great War truck said: Here is an original A Type body plate built by International Harvester but fitted to a B Type body on an FWD Model B. Cracking plates I'll try to get them all up on the website this weekend. The Ordnance 5 ton artillery tractor is a very interesting vehicle I'm surprised any have survived. lynx42 Rick Cove
Here in Australia, I have had this Fore Limber lying around for many years with the idea of restoration. (Another Gunna!) It was manufactured by R.S.J and is dated 1/1918. Serial No. E.171564. Will it ever be restored by me. Well it is on the restoration to do list so who knows. The biggest problem is the rivets holding the timber to the steel. If you have an idea where I can obtain them, well that might move it up the list. I have marked the correct location of the ID plate for those asking for the location. Regards Rick. Hi Hamble, About 5 years ago while in Australia, I was asked to view the estate of a deceased collector and there was a British WW1 GS Wagon there. Sadly I do not have a photo of the data plate now, but the makers initials were GRC&W Co Ltd, which was the Gloucester Railway Carriage & Wagon Co. Ltd. regards, Richard
