SirLanceUK
Hi, I am sure everyone will have noticed Brightwells Auctions are flogging off non-running Spartans for knock down prices. Has any member actually brought any of them? Does anyone know how many they have to shift? Does anyone know anyone who has brought one? I believe Witham Specialist Vehicles auctions have lost the contract to sell military vehicles in favour of Brightwells but the I am sure the last sale at Withams non running CVRT's were going for £7000 + . A bit of difference Has anyone any thoughts or can provide fact not just rumour Lance
sirhc
Lance, I believe the Brightwells Spartans are missing quite a few parts, final drives, tracks, dash boards, and most difficult to source clutches. ‘Knock down prices’ is a relative term, cheap if you have those parts in stock or can wait for them to turn up... if they ever do. Most likely some or all of these will end up stripped for spares and scrapped. Chris
SirLanceUK
Hi Chris, As I mentioned the White's sale was £7000+ and the last lots went at Brightwells for £2500 to £3000. I did notice the control panels removed but on 2 of the lots the panel was actually still with the vehicle, along with some of the vehicles having tracks. I did look at some Spartan's at Whites and they were in an awful conditions as well. On one I could not see if there was and engine as you could not open the engine louvre. And you are correct I was thinking that I may purchase one for spares for my Spartan hence why I wanted some "knowledge" Lance
sirhc
Someone on the Facebook group has looked at them and stated that they were missing the clutches. I can also see fans missing in the photos. As with all of these things, bid what you’re happy to pay and ideally view them first.
SirLanceUK
My last post on this, according to the auction site there is no on site viewing, hence my plea for insider information
sirhc
That’s probably why they went cheap then?
Muzzer
Hi Gents FYI I've just uploaded 2x Documents for CVRT (D) Spartan They could well be useful for much of the CVRT (D) variants For my vehicle, I've just dealt with a bad case of Diesel Bug so if you have any questions about how to go about adding in a pre-fuel filter with a primer pump you can actually reach, give me a shout. In other news I've just had the steering calipers reworked and next up are the three master cylinders. if anyone has advice or tips for the MC's it would be most welcome. All the very best Muzzer

All the very best Muzzer I have found the documents and have downloaded them...… Thank you... My reading has been sorted for a while Lance Below is me not trying and I am sorry for that everyone... as penance I will take my Spartan to a charity event this Saturday for free Booker Common, High Wycombe Hi, where did you upload them to, as I am still working out my wat around this site? Lance Edited June 18, 2019 by SirLanceUK did not even try to finr the documents
Grasshopper
Give the MC seals in hydraulic oil oil for a good while, and get them warm too (i put them in a sealed jar of oil on a radiator) as it makes them more supple. The big seals are a heck of a job to get over, good to have a spare kit just in case one tears.
sirhc
I agree with Vince, have destroyed seals in the past trying to stretch them over the piston without soaking first. I always carry seal kits or a spare rebuilt master cylinder on the vehicle along with steering pads and brake cleaner. Contaminated steering pads is an issue when the front fills up during heavy rain. Regarding fuel contamination, I’ve fitted smaller marine tanks to both the Spartans we have had after breaking down due to crap fuel. You’ll never need 400l of fuel anyway. Chris Hi Chris Can you comfirm that the MC seal kits are a Landrover product, do you have any advice on where to procure seal kits from or an item number? I'm assuming all three units (steering x2 and main breaks x1) are the same item. Muzzer
sirhc
Definitely not a Land Rover part! They are mineral oil seals. Do not put brake fluid in the steering and braking systems. You can buy seal kits from Banisters. http://www.milweb.net/go/banister/ The master cylinders are all identical.
bigduke6
It does cheer me up hearing that Witham Specialist Vehicles have lost the MOD contract, pity it wasn't 20 years ago when I got there credit facilities stopped for a few days, absolute toss**s. john1950
You have to speak as you find. I find Whithams easy to deal with, the people are really helpfull and nice. Only thing they do not have is councelling for buying things you do not need or will never have a use for.

SirLanceUK
Any person acting like that for me would have been shown the door very quickly. Having said that I only had 2 dealings with them. The first was a viewing of 4 CVRT’s which were wrecks, but the guy escorting me was friendly enough. The second was buying a CVRT drivers chair, which had a crack in the runners which they failed to mention or show.
