Mrs Hardyferret
Good to see the Beckettmobile on film - That is the best weekend I have ever spent with the MVs, great weather, great company, great vehicles and what an atmosphere. :schocked: And all thanks to the hard work of Poppy and the team. Just hope we get invited again next year. Mrs Hardyferret
That has just sent shivers down my spine :schocked: I wish I had thought to video the sherman as it followed up the hill from the harbour. The sound from the engine just totally enveloped us and that was with my Com's set on :schocked: at first I thought it was a plane low overhead. We have not been able to move over to the Dark Side as Jerry calls it, but we were both very happy to be in the that company on Sunday. :-D
Jack
Ok chaps, stand easy. Here are some snaps of the Weymouth weekend. As always, the best show of season for me as it is a great atmosphere, thousands of people, all friendly and wanting to chat. It is a great place to talk to the vets from all wars - the Normandy guys are always happy to talk and you learn so much from these folks. The show is promoting itself as the event for veterans from all wars and it looks like the case as this is the place to learn as I for one, have no knowledge of our post war conflicts (apart from the Falklands) as was very interested to see many associations from these campaigns. As Mrs Hardyferret has stated, the road run to Portland has to be rated as one of the best road runs that I have been on for many reasons and one of them was being able to drive through to Portland Bill in a big convoy but what done it for me was driving behind Jims Sherman - never done that before but it was something else. The noise of that monster bouncing of the houses was breath taking and Jess and I were smiling from ear to ear all the way - this really makes the hair stand up on the back of your neck and as Sues said, the noise knocked you senseless and I had no idea what gear I was in or if in fact the engine was even running, thats how loud it was! :schocked: This is what owning a GMC is all about I screamed at Jess - what did you say was his reply.......... The Police and the WW2 outriders done a great job and these guys have to be of the coolest things to see on the circuit - it was interesting to see Jim's low loader driver using his artic in an 'out riders' role!!!! The run into town first thing in the morning was also a good run and again following Jim and the other GMC's was rather sweet. But not as sweet as Mrs Hardyferret bring me tea in bed at 07:00 on Sunday morning - thanks Sue!! All in all, a great weekend as is hard to beat for me but one a bum note my GMC seems to of picked up a horrid knocking noise over the weekend and it got worse coming home so much so that I had to slow down to a crawl.......... Enjoy the pictures. The campsite where we stayed and a shot of Chesil beach where the bouncing bomb was first used in practise.. http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s15/hmvf/IMAG0145.jpg[/img] . Outriders getting ready for the run. http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s15/hmvf/IMAG0138.jpg[/img] . A couple of Jess on the .50 on our GMC. . Jims car on the low loader - he reckons he can't afford to run both a car and a Sherman so he drives his Sherman to shows and low loaders his car to them. :dunno: . Waiting for the big push, Lawson (Brother in Law) and I and the GMC - after that my camera broke  Edited January 14, 2010 by Jack
Mrs Hardyferret
OK here are some more photos from the weekend. rather poor quality I'm afraid as I was only using my little Compaq and it was stretched to the limit at times with the bright sun and being bounced about. For the public demonstration on the beach on Saturday some of the vehicles where taken down onto the beach so as to be driven over the bridge once the beach had been taken and the bridge built. All in the blazing sunshine and under the gaze of hundreds/thousands of sightseers. We were instructed that under no circumstances were we to dismount from our vehicles once the battle had started as the army was taking health and safety to the max. (Personally I could not see a problem as most of the time the poor lads could not get their weapons to work any way - lots of frantic bashing and shaking.) http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q137/MrsHardyferret/Weymouth%2007/IMG_6742.jpg[/img] http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q137/MrsHardyferret/Weymouth%2007/IMG_6733.jpg[/img] http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q137/MrsHardyferret/Weymouth%2007/IMG_6753.jpg[/img] http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q137/MrsHardyferret/Weymouth%2007/IMG_6761.jpg[/img] http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q137/MrsHardyferret/Weymouth%2007/IMG_6772.jpg[/img] http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q137/MrsHardyferret/Weymouth%2007/IMG_6780.jpg[/img] http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q137/MrsHardyferret/Weymouth%2007/IMG_6788.jpg[/img] http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q137/MrsHardyferret/Weymouth%2007/IMG_6802.jpg[/img] http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q137/MrsHardyferret/Weymouth%2007/IMG_6816.jpg[/img] http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q137/MrsHardyferret/Weymouth%2007/IMG_6823-1.jpg[/img] http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q137/MrsHardyferret/Weymouth%2007/IMG_6827.jpg[/img]

Mark
How much fuel did you use Jim, if you don't mind me asking
Jim Clark
Hi Mark, I used just under £150-00 for both days, but worth every penny. I think if I worried about the fuel consumption (about 2 gallons to the mile) I would not take it anywhere.
