Morris LRV

Chappers

Recommended Posts

Thats a good find. I had a little look on the net for info on these and came up with the same info you did. Is the engine in it, if it is what engine has it got? I'll do a bit more digging around myself, as there doesnt seem to be much info on these, I suspect you will have to find out where the Morris archives are kept! Start a blog on the restorations part on here, so we can see what you are up to. Good luck ;-)

Cheers for the help Rick, I'll start a blog as soon as I get it home. From what I can find out it's a MKII 4 wheeled drive version and the data plate says its manufactured in 1944.It has 649 miles on the clock so not done a lot.

It comes with a four cylinder flat head engine and 2 gearbox's (already removed) .It's missing the carb and the insides are severely rotted, but I can rebuild it with time .I'm going to contact the museums to see if they can help with drawings etc.

Most I know of are in museums but I think the running gear is from Morris commercial vehicles!!

Anyway I'll post here when I get it home

Regards

Steve

I think its all Morris Commercial running gear. I may know of someone who has some of the heavier duty spares ie, gearbox, engine, driveshafts etc. Carb is standard, there was a nearly new one on ebay a while ago, and I have a spare if you need one. If I come across anything for it I will let you know. I have a knackered rad you are welcome to if you want one. It will need repairing though, I think the rad shoul be the same, I dont know if they may be a different shape on the LRV to account for the armour.

Thanks guys for all the input, to be honest I've never dealt with British kit before,Basically I'll buy any spare parts that you think I'll need and you want to get rid of ,When I've finished restoring I'll gladly let you have them back if surplus to requirements.

Definitely need a good Carb as it's missing, the fuel tank neck has rotted away, but I'll repair that with a neck of a knackered petrol tank. The Radiator is also In need of a rebuild so thats something I'll need to look at as we progress.

I'm based in Solihull ,West Midlands so pretty central to the U.K If you have anything that you think is use full then let me know asap.

Here's a site with some use full info I've found

http://www.freewebs.com/morris-recce/index.htm

Names of suppliers is something I'm short of!!

Thanks again for the support guy's this is what It's all about !!!!

As John said, John Walker has a complete engine set of gaskets. Although it doesnt include sump gasket. Fuel pumps pop up on ebay on a regular basis, when I can suss out the part number I will let you know. You will need to make up the gaskets for the water jacket plate and sump. Use card and plenty of sealant for the water jacket covers! PM me your address and I will send you my spare carb, ( on the basis you may be able to help me out one day ;-)). Where in the UK are you based?

A few years ago, I needed a clutch and plate for a Humber Scout Car. I contacted Borg & Beck, the clutch manufacturers and they were able to give me an up to date part number for clutch cover assy, it was the same as a 1970's Marshall tractor. Went to the local motor factors, order it and recieved next day, one exchange unit. The driven plate was easy, the same factors, had it relined.

The manuals include the full welding procedure for the LRV ,A very comprehensive workshop manual,Drivers manual, and full spare parts manual.

I'm well please with the lot looking at my vehicle it was no 562 out of 599 vehicles built under that contract, giving it a chassis no of 3013

I didnt realise you could get all that info from Bovvy! I take it they only keep that sort of info for armoured stuff? Did you have to pay for all that info?

I would be interested to find out what was special about the first 2 that were adapted for the RA, the bit that has a line through. Nice lot Steve, I can imagine what you will be doing tonight...
