CaptMax Posted September 13, 2015 Author Share Posted September 13, 2015 This weekend I cleaned and painted my starter. I was going to have it rebuilt but it was in perfectly good working order. CaptMax Posted December 19, 2018 Author Share Posted December 19, 2018 I have not been updating this thread as I intended to but it is still progressing. I’ve gotten a lot done since I last posted. Here are some current pictures. I have bought new tires, installed the dash instruments and wiring, rebuilt the brakes with alll new parts, painted the hull and stowage bins after repairs, and am currently reassembling the transmission after replacing the band material. It is what came with the majority of the CES tools when I received them. Would you happen to have a picture of the type your speaking of? I would say - the better one would have V Steel , BAHCO , Sweden (I think the reverse side has Invented by Bahco year ??? ), just as correct probably the earlier version - A B BAHCO ,Stockholm . Bahco also produced identical to yours for Britool (with taper handle) , I well remember the first Britool one I purchased a more pocket sized 8" at Liverpool 1970 when I started as a seagoing junior engineer. I chose the chrome rather than phosphated - only to have it nicked by the lascars. Prior to that I had Bahco 4" , 6" , 10" & 12" - tended to use only the 6" & 10" . Then a local factor in early 1970's started stocking PROTO , I considered them better , one was a 4" "click-stop" version - useless , been in a M&W toolmakers cabinet almost 50 years unused ! At least I now know what to look for. We have PROTO here in the states but not many BAHCO. I’ll have to come to the UK and find some boot sales or nick a few from someone. 😆 LOL. Unfortunately I can not find the pair of parallel handle 10" V Steel. Sweden - I just used them several weeks ago. Also a 12" AB Bahco Stockholm + a 12" V Steel Sweden , both parallel handle (they must be at my other garage a few miles away. Doing badly for 6" - can't find any LoL However I did find a Vintage 4" with parallel handle. Of course my Shifter pride & joy is the 18" , although never used much. Purchased 1982 , had my covetous eyes on it for a good while , it was part of a Ironmongers window display along with a Wolf "Grinderette" I also had my eyes on. I had been working in Northern Scotland & knew there were few AA 2 or 3 star hotels to submit £ receipts , so opted for subsistance allowance. I came out well on top , home on Thursday 24+ hours early and £50+ of float mine. The grinder had a ticket of £32 , I bartered that down to £25 because he had lost the box & pin spanner. The 18" Bahco was realistically priced at £25 because it had been on display for years, due to dusty condition I managed to get that down to £20. I still need to adjust the transmission bands and finish bolting on some small parts but I’m making progress.
