question White metal work on big ends

Anyone can recommend a place that deal with the white meatal big ends on a Wolsley engine? The Old Dear is knocking a bit. The engine isn't out yet but according to the book the big ends don't have shells.

Compact Orbital Gears in Rhayader do white metalling - we saw their plant during a factory visit.

Don't know anyone who's had the job done there, but they deal with high precision work.

Tony - if you google 'babbitted big end repair UK' you'll find a few companies. One in Coventry.

 

Alternatively look on classic car forum or rods'nsods forum.

You could try Cox and Turner Engineering, Yeovil or another by the same name based in Fordingbridge. They may even be the same company. I do not have any experience with these companies and have only come across the former at some vintage tractor events.

Thanks guys, the hunt commences. Talk about lost knowledge. The 1938 Wolsley guide to servicng, and Wolsley dealear could do the work for £5 2s 6d . Though it was the most expensive thing in the book! :-D (For the younger generation thats £5. 12 1/2p, though no VAT then)

You could try Gosnay's at Romford, that is not too far, they do white metalling.

Just had all the mains and big ends on the gardner 6LW for our Scammell Pioneer done by Taff Hughes at DPH engineering in Somerton, Somerset.
