Rick W
I found this locally up for sale and wondered if anyone could identify it for me please. Is it worth a purchase? If so how much should I be prepared to pay?
johnwardle
This looks very similar to one that I had, it was a Direct Line Sight for a 25 pounder. It is now on a mates 25 pounder.
25 pounder
25 pr indeed , same model fits 6 pr , not sure about 17 pr , but might fit as well !
Rick W
The asking price is £70, seems a bit ott to me, but I'm admittedly not an artillery person! Any use to anyone?

Rick W
Interesting! Sniper scope a world away from artillery scope surely? A load of old 25pr and other shell cases are with it as well. Would they be used for both?
Adrian Barrell
Do the shell cases come in with the scope for the £70?

Would they be used for both? As far as I know it has nothing to do with 25pdr? think someone is confusing it with the No 22 Telescope http://thegunner.net/khxc/gbu0-prodshow/No22C-Scope_and_web_strap.html
Rick W
There are 25,17 and 6 pounder shell cases, are you after any Adrian? Not for the same price else I would snap them up! Pairs of shell cases. Thanks for the info all. The Hestons site shows it with sturdy mountings, Lee, this has no mounts, but is as described in their site. R100mark
Those mounts look like a PW addition If it is the sight I think it is it should have a soft rubber eye piece that perishes and falls off. Might help if you have to haggle for it.
Rick W
Apparently, according to a collector of these things I got in touch with, it is a rare BESA gun sight for the Cromwell and Churchill, only made for one year, if anyone can confirm? It will be put up for sale.
Adrian Barrell
I don't think so Rick, the BESA in tanks used a larger sight that was also marked up on the graticule for the main gun, thus allowing its use in the turret too if needed. The sight holder would not allow the use of such a small sight.
Chris Hall
Its not a sniper scope like Helston are implying, they are hoping someone will buy it thinking its a No.32 scope for the Lee Enfield No.4. They are quite common and are from heavy guns (But don't ask me which), they can be found on ebay from £30 and can/have been used to repair the No.32 scope as they have values up to £1000. A thread on Milsurps concerning the N0.32, 42, 52 and 53 scopes. http://www.milsurps.com/showthread.php?t=36809 Edited January 18, 2014 by Chris Hall
