Don't forget that for the first year or two of the war, masks were improvised with black manila paper. It doesn't come easier and cheaper than that. The motoring press regularly had letters from private motorists complaining that they'd been reported for non-approved masks whilst the army continued to use paper on existing vehicles.

Do you have any pitures of how this was done mate? Also where did you hear about this?

CHRIS the practise of painting out the lights on vehicle was done early in the war until proper metal covers became available normally they used black paint straight on to the glass leaving a slit or triangle or as been said a circle of

thick paper the attached shows it in use just like johns Bedford there was a booklet on the subject of blackout measures

issued by the government
