painting desert vehicles the old way

Very interesting.

Another way I heard about was using whatever paint available and simply throwing sand on the fresh paintlayer.

Whether there is any truth to it I don't know.

Do you mean smearing glass with oil then adding sand to stop reflection?

faithful in the black paint on the wings

alas not anymore Monty's Humber at Duxford has recently been repainted in desert camoflauge

Not any more - they repainted it in desert colours.........
