woa2
I know it's an AA mount from early in the war and it has a specific name, but I can't remember it.
Artifficer
I know it's an AA mount from early in the war and it has a specific name, but I can't remember it. The gun looks like a .5 vickers, quite a bit bigger than a standard .303. a very similar mount to the twin Bren mount. Regards Rob
welbike
I know it's an AA mount from early in the war and it has a specific name, but I can't remember it. Think you mean the Motley Mount, but it looks different. try googling that, and see what comes up. Cheers, Lex
Richard Fisher
John, It is the Radial AA mount made for mounting one or two Vickers MGs. There was a specific Small Arms Training manual supplement for them, which I have available for free download from: http://www.vickersmachinegun.org.uk/manual-sat.htm It was printed in 1941 so is about halfway down the page. Louis
Hello, Can anyone tell me what type of gun and mount is in the back of these MW's. Thanks Hi John, What year of the war are we looking at now..?? Cheers, Louis
79x100
In wartime Ministry documents, 'SAS' generally seems to refer to the Small Arms School at Netheravon.
chrisgrove
Of course I do not know which version of the pamphlet you have, but training pamphlets were reprinted quite regularly, so the date of a particular pamphlet does not necessarily tell you anything about the date of introduction of the weapon to service. Richard Fisher
The 1942 pamphlet was the first one that covered this mounting, however, I have found mention of it earlier on, but can't recall where. I've never seen one in the flesh and would imagine they are few and far between. I'd certainly like to put a pair of my Vickers guns on one! Richard Fisher
If you go to http://www.vickersmachinegun.org.uk/acc-mountings.htm you'll find an Australian War Memorial photo of one in the relevant section on that page. Glad to have helped. Richard
