Depends upon the DVD.

North America is coded Region 1

We are codes Region 2

There is some sort of code that prevents one region playing on a machine coded for another region.

This vasically applies to Movies and TV series, so they can release them in one country while not in another.

They should have a symbol on them denoting the reion, generally a globe with a number in it.

If it is Region 0 or Region Free it will play anywhere.

If it is one you have recorded/made your self it should also be region free.

Hope this helps

The answer is NO it can not. Mike 65 is correct.

How do we know? We bought "Blott on the landscape" and they come in your system format and it doesn't work over here.

Free to a good home, two copies of the above, you pay postage we will give it to you.

some dvd players will play any region dvd or u can unlock them to play multi region.

Yes I have a multi region (chipped) one. Got it when DVDs were new in th UK.

You remember you had a choice of about 4 films at about £20 a shot.

But you could get Region 1 for half the price of the net.

Many can actual be "hacked" to allow different regions.

My laptop gives you a choice of area codes.

You got to be carefull with computers. Not sure if it is the same, but my previous PC allowed you to change the Region settings but after so many changes it would lock in that region.
