Rick W
Good find, good to see some with RAF markings on to. Be interesting to see if the unit or airfield could be pinned down.
BillyH
Photo 8. Dodge Station Bus. 111 M.U. R.A.F. in 1942 was in Tura, 20 mile south of Cairo, an M.T. and radio servicing unit. A lot of quarries in that area, hence the rope way. BillyH
MHillyard
Good find, good to see some with RAF markings on to. Be interesting to see if the unit or airfield could be pinned down. it also came with several other bits including envelopes addressed to him. It is 111 RAF Maintenance Unit, at Tura? The address: 3052063 AC/i? Taylor E? MTRS 111.mu RAF M-E-F Can anyone translate this to English? http://www.bbc.co.uk/ww2peopleswar/stories/83/a7820183.shtml I also got ,not sure if it is his, a wartime RAF diary with entry's of where he is moving to. There are lots of photos around 80. Another lot to add to my collection

Degsy
Top centre of photo 8 row of what appear to be 3 ton 4x4's I think could be Thornycroft Nubian's. I agree with other id's.
Gordon_M
The Clarktor is a Clarktor Six, heavy, as it has the heavier ( cast ) rear wings and dual rears. The Dodges, including the station bus look to be T110L code D60 Canadian built trucks
Pete Ashby
I wonder if the bike could be an Indian 741B?, the RAF had a number of these bikes under lease lend for message and general duties, the army for some some reason were not keen on them , as Gordon says a sprinkling of D60s and the Leyland crane is indeed a Retriever and in the same shot a Fordson WoT 1 makes an appearance. Nice set of pictures Pete

NigeP
it also came with several other bits including envelopes addressed to him. It is 111 RAF Maintenance Unit, at Tura? The address: 3052063 AC/i? Taylor E? MTRS 111.mu RAF M-E-F Can anyone translate this to English? Probably AC/i = Aircraftman 1st Class, but can't confirm that. MTRS = Motor Transport Repair Section 111MU = 111 Maint Unit M E F = I think is Middle East Force. Probably completely wrong, but a start. rhodes
the third photo is definitely Harley, however it is not a WLA as used by the US forces, or as supplied by them for lend lease, as they had a gun scabbard and ammo box on the front forks. it could be a WLC as they NEVER had a gun scabbard etc, or possibly could be the military harley built for the south africans. note the warm weather clothing. if the photo was clearer to see the front marker light it might help. regards, gerry
