Willyslancs
As requested this week, some pics of our butty boxes, the british one was hinged at the bottom. The american one had a door put in it, and a lock added . water or ice can be put in the filler neck to cool beer/coke.(we used a shell).......... robin craig
Interesting, we have one of those east german gerry cans with the three food containers in it and insulation sitting in our stores. R
Amphibi boy
Some novel idea's, I once see a Jerry can with a big subwoofer speaker in it, it was made so well you would have missed it unless it was pointed out to you. I like the idea of the door in the side, would make a cool looking beer cooler! :cool2: Also nice to see what's inside them, like the USA one, I didn't realise the filler tube was that long. I would do one for a hidden tool box, What else could they be used for? Cheers Shaun
Willyslancs
its not a filler tube mate , its a brass shell , which seals the filler area off , ( ice storage ).............
Amphibi boy
Oops stupid me  I see now good idea, would it also be a good idea to insulate the inside, to help keep it cool! I have some spare can's in the shed, I'm now thinking what to make!!!!! :cool2: Cheers Shaun

fesm_ndt
quite clever ideas maybe a good lock box for stuff left in the MV, lap tops, gps etc. But would also have to be bolted down as jerry cans have always been an easy target. some more http://forum.ih8mud.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=486136&stc=1&d=1295558054 http://www.quadratec.com/Assets/Images/146256/146256-add11-lg.jpg Ok can't cut this up but came up in the search and thought you may like the picture http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u100/swordman80/IMG_1642.jpg I didnt know they made specifically SS ones Edited August 23, 2011 by fesm_ndt

mike65
Thats got me thinking. A lockable one would fit quite nicely in the can holder above the shunt box in my 109 FFR. Could be secured to the holder with 4 bolts welded to an external plate clamping onto the stand base. Nuts inside so it cannot be readily removed. OK you could not hinge it the seam but I am sure something can ge done which does not look out of place. Mike
Rangie
BBQ! I have one I ground the handle off, sliced it around the seam weld, welded hinges and a toggle-clamp onto. I then welded one half of the handle back on (left the other half free to open past the handle), so it looked original and still fitted a jerrycan rack! Frame inside with a grille. Tons of space for BBQ, storage for utensils and extra charcoal! Going to modify it so that 4 legs made of conduit store inside the lid but can be slotted into tubes welded into the can for adding extra height (its a bit heavy with 2 bricks inside it for feet :-D:-D Pics to follow when I dig it out of hibernation........ :cool2: Alec. Enigma
it had a hole in anyway mate , and when we bought our us jerrycans , they were only a couple of quid !!!..... Ok, I understand. I must admit I have a WW2 Brit, water jerrycan. It had a bullit hole through it and I added another 3 holes by punching holes through it... Enigma
Ok can't cut this up but came up in the search and thought you may like the picture http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u100/swordman80/IMG_1642.jpg I didnt know they made specifically SS ones Yes, they were made by Sandrik, only for the SS. I have 1 in my collection. BUT in the 90's the same factory replicated them so beware when buying. There are differences though so you can see which one is fake.
