Peter4456
These pictures were given to me by a mate (ex REME Staff Sgt) and show what appear to be recovery exercises - the Ferret was certainly pushed into a hole before being dragged out again! He thinks they were taken on Salisbury Plain (other photos of the Ferret show it in a 'German village') but the Churchill background looks like STANTA to me - any ideas? The Churchill looks quite reasonable - anyone know where it ended up? What is the hull the men are standing in front of?
RecyMech
The hull the blokes are in front of is a Cent, but I don't recognise the large hook device on the front...possibly a variation...AVRE or a bridge layer maybe...definately not a Mk2 ARV though. Someone here will confirm it. H
Pzkpfw-e
The Churchill looks like the Cadman Brother's example.
Toolman
No record on where the ferret ended up, looks like it might have been rolled?
mcspool
The Churchill looks quite reasonable - anyone know where it ended up? It does and it ended up here: http://www.hill112.com/tank.htm
steveo578
the cent hull seems to be none standard it is not an avre, bridgelayer or Ark it may be a test hull for a later bridge layer type perhaps a trial for the chieftan avlb which had similar lugs for the frame. Good catch on the churchill Hanno definately the Hill 112 tank -note the position of the turret. steve Edited January 19, 2011 by steveo578
Peter4456
Another shot of the Ferret being disturbed from it's slumber before being dumped in a hole and then recovered! - one for Toolman & Ferretkitt! Thanks for the replies - I'm glad the Churchill survived - was it on Salisbury Plain or Stanford?
Adrian Barrell
Churchill definately on Stanford, I have some pics of its final recovery.
