trustmeimamechanic Posted October 3, 2010 Posted October 3, 2010 They look like Range wrecks to me , still what a discovery, never find tanks in the woods when out walking the dogs round here ...only parts of them.... sections of Sherman track and some as yet unidentified track from a center guide tracklayer of some sort.. bits of Halifax with the paint still on . Quote
Jack Posted October 3, 2010 Author Posted October 3, 2010 Where are the HMVF tankers when you want them!!! They are bound to know something about them.................:coffee: Quote
Adrian Barrell Posted October 3, 2010 Posted October 3, 2010 There are quite a few on disused ranges in France but..... they are not really abandoned, just resting! :-) Quote
Great War truck Posted October 3, 2010 Posted October 3, 2010 i wish some people would learn to hold the camera still when they film stuff. An interesting subject but totally unwatchable. I look forward to seeing the stills in Pathfinder. I am sure there are hundreds of MV's still on European ranges. Getting them off will be the hard part. then again it can be done. Supertracks Sherman came off a French range. One of the things i hate about youtube is the inane, pointless, racist and xenophobic comments posted by the users. Quote

Jack Posted October 3, 2010 Author Posted October 3, 2010 What sort of targets would they be? As they don't look like they have been blasted to pieces. Quote
Stormin Posted October 3, 2010 Posted October 3, 2010 The rear corner of the one with the fabricated hull looks like almost new metal! Very clean plate, almost no pitting and the weld looks shiny. Looks almost like someones restoration project has been dragged out into the woods. Quote
Joris Posted October 3, 2010 Posted October 3, 2010 One of the things i hate about youtube is the inane, pointless, racist and xenophobic comments posted by the users. There is a very simple solution to that problem, don't read them! I never do, have never missed it too. Quote
steveo578 Posted October 3, 2010 Posted October 3, 2010 trustmeimamechanicnever find tanks in the woods when out walking the dogs round here The churchill 2 now a "gatguard" at Bovington was found in the 1970s-80s in a forest at Stainburn moor in Yorks. The three vehicles shown in the Utube clipp could weel end up in the same circumstances -given time. Quote
eddy8men Posted October 3, 2010 Posted October 3, 2010 there's a lot of tanks kicking about that nobody has made public yet, well not this side of the channel anyway, all you need is a sympathetic ear from someone in the military or local museum and you've cracked it but it's not the finding of the tanks that's hard or even the recovering it's getting permission that might cause a headache or two but don't let that put you off fella's if you think it's worth a try then go for it. (i'll have the m10 please) nothing ventured, nothing gained. eddy Quote
steveo578 Posted October 4, 2010 Posted October 4, 2010 Eddy8men...all you need is a sympathetic ear from someone in the military Is that all:confused: sympathetic ear..in the french military -..that must be a tautology:D Quote
eddy8men Posted October 4, 2010 Posted October 4, 2010 i was laughing to myself when i wrote that but it's not unfeasible just bloody unlikely eddy Quote
Pzkpfw-e Posted October 4, 2010 Posted October 4, 2010 Here's a set of stills showing what else is in the woods there, no bears defacating! http://the.shadock.free.fr/Tanks_in_France/camp_meucon/index.html Quote
steveo578 Posted October 4, 2010 Posted October 4, 2010 excellent photos the M5A1 is particulary nice and lots that are restorable but, and it's a big one, in the past French authorities have been very difficult to deal with. Steve Quote
Jack Posted October 4, 2010 Author Posted October 4, 2010 Got to tell you guys - I am a man of big visions but can never see the vision how you would even consider restoring a tank:shocked::shocked::shocked::shocked: Quote
kpu121265 Posted October 4, 2010 Posted October 4, 2010 You accept the fact that you're going to need some bigger spanners, jacks and hoists, more even more pals - and start at one end, just like anything else..... Ken Quote

I think it safe to say that I am blind in these situations:( Quote
kpu121265 Posted October 5, 2010 Posted October 5, 2010 But cleary not in others which some (most) would consider 'harder'. Keep it up. As Patton said, "Lead me, follow me, or get out of my way"! Ken Quote
