Hello from Surrey....with Nederlander connections

Hi,

After having lurked on this forum for a while and having thoroughly enjoyed reading about some great restorations, feel it is time to post an intro.

I've been interested in WWII history and MV since school. Not counting Airfix......started by helping a friend maintain his halftrack in ealry 1990's (change tracks and back axle after a catastrophic failure on the M20!).

Some MV events I have been involved in: 1995 Tribute and Promise in the Mall; numerous Bethune trips; 2005 and 2009 IMPS trips to Normandy; annual trip to Oosterbeek (family connection there); took part with the Jeep in the 2007 Centenary celebrations of the FANYs at Buckingham Palace (met the Queen and then parade down Mall to Chelsea Hospital....not a normal MV event !)

And not forgetting lots of W&P's and the 2009 Combined Ops.

My wife's family are from the Netherlands; father-in-law was liberated in Helmond (nr Eindhoven) by Op Market Garden; mother-in-law had a much tougher war in Rotterdam....survived on raw sugar beet and saw Operation Manna.

As a result of this connection, my 1944 Willys is marked up as Guard's Armoured Div.

Also have couple of Airborne trailers and have just finished restoring an Airborne Water Bowser.

Anyway, enough of an intro I think.

Tot ziens en groeten,

John
