thedawnpatrol
I am sorry to report the death this morning of another of 'The Few' Wing Commander Bob Doe, a true Gent who will be sadly missed. I have spent several interesting hours in his company over recent years. R.I.P Bob. Jules

LarryH57
In the years after WW2 Bob Doe shuned alot of the re-unions and lived a normal life out of the public eye. I seem to remember he owned his own Petrol Station at one time. Because he was not one to brag about his exploits he remained relatively unknown and not a household name like Bader, Tuck or Jonny Johnson and yet with a score of 15 or more certainly played his part in the defence of this country. LarryH57
Just found these quotes from Bob Doe We do not want to be remembered as heroes, we only ask to be remembered for what we did....that's all. If you believe in yourself and believe in what you are doing then you are twice as strong as if you don't. That is what I believe and I certainly believed in my right to defend my land. I wasn't fighting for the King, I was fighting for me Mum — I didn't want them over here. ferretfixer
Saw him once on a TV program during an interview. He seemed a Gent & Typical of a lot of the Wartime Ex Servicemen of the time. Modest & Humble! Sad, but an an inevitable ending for ALL of us one day! :-(

abn deuce
Thank You for posting the links , He was quite a Pilot ! . Surely that says something about the training that those men went through just be for the war . He was the worst pilot but survived when the "better " ones did not ! ben
Thank You for posting the links , He was quite a Pilot ! . Surely that says something about the training that those men went through just be for the war . He was the worst pilot but survived when the "better " ones did not ! The series Spitfire Ace which can be found on YouTube highlights how some of the pilots had around 9 hours training. I think he was born to fly and was a complete natural.
