  1. I always thought of these as the natural successor to the Matador for the timber boys but probably too complicated for them.
  2. Richard, I think you are on the right lines although the stamped marks are the prefix and suffix of the carb basic number. The full number would be something like 772FKDA 9500 6BB where 9500 might be the basic number for a carb of any type. It is 36 years since I worked at Ford but I think the prefix is for a '72 model year Ford GB product and the suffix defines the changes ie the first would have been AA, a minor revision would be AB, a major revision BA and so on. The throttle linkage bracket looks very much like Escort crossflow.

  4. Scammell EKA recovery has dual identical slave sockets for 12v and 24v vehicles.
  5. I was recently picked up for submitting my time sheet and invoice by email while I was on weekly break; I had to claim that my wife had sent it using my profile.
  6. You sure about the import duty Lee, Poland is an EU member?
  7. Not this one by any chance, looks very tidy? http://hmvf.co.uk/forumvb/showthread.php?20793-1976-rhd-101fc&p=226071#post226071
  8. This is more like it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qxjDWWpYfNI&feature=related
  9. In my youth I would have done that no probs but doubt I would have the stamina now, and as Loggy said, climbing down could be harder than going up. Last year my wife and I went on a 2 hour intro to potholing at Cheddar but what surprised me was the reaction from just about all my friends when I told them, they developed a cold sweat just thinking about it.
  10. After 5 months you are going to have some serious flats on the tyres although they usually go back into shape once they warm up. The Green Goddess support vehicles were stored on stands and even had blocks between the axles and chassis to take the weight off the springs.
  11. From memory the accumulators are charged to 600 bar with nitrogen but the pressure drops off quite fast. The basic problem is that the pump is too small for the ram and at low revs the steering will go solid once the stored pressure has been depleted; I amost demolished my next door neighbour's house when I pulled up for the first time. Fortunately, Martian brakes are very good and saved the day.
  12. A421 Milton Keynes, I pulled alongside gave you hoot and you waved back. I almost ran out of driving time after following you from Bedford!
  13. Can you get a 16.00x20? Does Militant 3 not use a 16R20 which being a radial may have a 90% aspect ratio and be no bigger than a 15.00x20. Rim is 10" wide on both.
  14. Junior was also available with SCG gearbox for the sake of accuracy, I know of at least 2 examples, one of which was owned by the Freer family but which was sadly cut up. I believe parts of the gearbox were used to repair Dave Crouch's Contractor. Have you worked out who overtook you on the way to GDSF in the Waitrose artic?
  15. All the same, 14.9:1 overall in top, 190.4:1 in bottom. Standard tyre size was 15.00 x 20. Most had a brass plate with a warning not to exceed (32?)mph as the transfer box could develop a serious vibration.
  16. Cosrec, what would be the best way to recover the loaded mixer without causing further damage? Pulling it upright with a double high level pull looks easy enough but the N/S wheels would still be over the ditch. Would you lift the chassis and drag it clear of the ditch first or would a mobile crane be a better way and easier to control the casualty with such a high centre of gravity? I am also thinking of the time element before the concrete begins to set and writes the drum off.
  17. You can make adaptors by screwing palm couplings directly onto modern type couplings, check if you need self sealing types (the ones used without air taps). The only downside is that the adaptor can rotate and the weight of the airline can cause the palm coupling to come apart. Safest way would be to fit modern couplings to the trailer airlines.
  18. Sackcloth and ashes for me this time, I should have typed centrifugal. I knew it was all about cats and flees though....
  19. It is not the sliding section of the shaft that has gives trouble in this case but the splines on the gearbox output shaft and the mating companion flange. The universal joints were originally lubricated with oil, each spider having an integral oil reservoir and centripetal force feeding the needle rollers. Grease is usually used these days but can dry out rapidly due to the heat from the exhaust muffler directly below. Although in phase, the joints run at extreme angles and speeds, up to 3600rpm or so at max speed. My Explorer had 'grease propshaft every 50 miles' stencilled on the inside of the driver's door.
  20. Plurality=more than one, I suggest 6 in each joint. When you have cracked the Explorer shaft we will let you loose on the Constructor trailing axle one.
  21. It is about time you designed an Explorer propshaft using a pair of CV joints.
  22. Thanks Tugger, you have confirmed what I was saying in post 18, not that anyone believed me:-D
  23. Rob I know the Welsh like to be different but the clutch brake is used to slow the gearbox and centre plate down when changing up not down and to stop the gearbox turning if engaging a gear when stationary.:-)
