    Cromwell

The Cromwells shown on BoB, were representative of vehs from 11th Armoured Div's Armoured recce regt. A Sqn (my old Sqn) 15/19 Hussars who were attached to 506 PIR at the time. 11th AD was not directly committed in Market - Garden. Instead, it was in charge of securing the rignt flank of the operation. Attached to 8th Corps, it was moving on September 18. Progressing in two columns, it managed to reach the parachutists of the 101st airborne at Nuenen, on the 22nd, its engineers established a bridge on the Willemsvaart canal. The Division could then make an encircling movement around Helmond, forcing Germans to withdraw on the September 25th.
  15. Our QM(T) in Tidworth used to walk around the tankpark just after start of work. If he saw a veh moving he used to stop it and make the dvr and cmdr complete a first parade in front of him, he did this to make sure one had been done prior to first moving the veh. If there was a fault found he reported this to the appropriate Sqn HQ.
  16. Always check the gearbox oil when the vehicle is static and engine off. When I was a Tp Sgt. I was really anal about my drivers doing all their checks. One of them was talking to his mate and said, "If we are at a set of traffic lights for more than 1 min., Bazz makes us do a oil level check", his mate actually believed it.
  17. Especially if you use the flash eliminator as a hand hold after a range session.

  23. Whilst on my last NI tour (84) I was roled as a Sqn Medic, when we took patients in to the Hosp in Belfast we used a "Civilianised" mini, driver carried a Browning and the escort had a Sterling SMG. The Sqn did training on the Browning prior to going, there was only 2 of us who passed the wht for the pistol.
