  3. If the British system was like the American then large numbers of vehicles were brought in to rebuild depots all were disassembled repaired and parts replaced as needed and reassembled from what parts were at hand to make complete vehicles with no pattern just reassemble repaint and return to use.

  6. A question for you Mike , I see that chain fall on several different trucks and understand its for lifting the spare on and off the body , but does isn't it a risk keeping it fitted and encountering some tree limb or other that would tear it off or severely damage it , rather than laying it down inside the body ?

  12. Thanks for the reply , The chains I was referring to are the large bicycle type on either side in the front engine bay area . I wish those snowtracs were still being made and sold here as they are more practical than an open snowmobile , I like snow but dont want to be OUT in it lol

  13. could you use the 1/2" hex with a spacer or shim of some kind ? like a thin strip of metal either hammered to fit around the hex or inserted on a couple of sides of the hex to help tighten up the fit ? Perhaps it was originally 1/2" but is now worn ?
  14. might be time to get out a nut splitter on the head bolts and or the trusty gas ax and get a few things up to temperature not going to be easy as that engine looks to have been out in the weather for a while . Hoping for the best of luck for you .

  16. Found a couple of clips from different events involving the 1940's Something went wrong... Something went wrong... Something went wrong... Something went wrong...
  17. Never fear I wouldn't report you , as long as you were operating under control which you seemed to be its all good . Under the STGO rules I m guessing you would have to had traveled the roads you are going to travel with a regular vehicle to check for any problems before making the trip with the Antar . Seems the lanes and country roads over there do tend to run very narrow , that driving a WC on some back roads/tracks/paths is even a challenge and that a Jeep may take up the entire width . Nice to see all your hard work and problems are gone for now .
  18. Welcome with many members with armoured British vehicles online here your knowledge and experience will come in handy , be ready for lots of questions .

  21. A short story about the dedicated group of Nebraskans who greeted and gave a smile and a sandwich or Donut or cookies and support to countless Military serviceman during WWII as the trains stopped for ten minutes that passed though North Platte Nebraska headed for either coast . Even with war time rationing the area farm families gave of their produce to feed each of them. Meaning the sugar and chocolate among other items had to be found some how to supply the baked goods , that the gas and tires also needed to be stretched to bring the volunteers and supplies to the station everyday for four and a half years . Something went wrong...
  22. I had a couple of questions about the snow trac's , What are the items mounted on the front fenders of the trac's , are they patches for the track? How many people can the trac carry ? Since these units use Volkswagen air cooled engines and I have had a Bug so I know the heat out put isn't great ..... do they add any other heating system as in electric or tap into the engine oil to keep the cab toasty . Is there an automatic oiling system for the drive chains or simply oil before each use ?
