I do so wish you wouldn't talk all technical :-D
  2. Good pics. Unusual protection cage and lights on that Bedford TM - any info on this?
  3. They said on radio that any application to salvage would almost certainly be refused as it is a War Grave. Respect to those who perished. Interesting to note that the subs were there mainly to disrupt the supply of Swedish iron ore to German industry.
  4. I'm assuming though, Richard, that Tony doesn't want to dismantle the spring just to replace the rivet? In which case, and since the rivet is only there to stop the clip sliding off, I would carefully grind the sides of the rivet head back just enough to allow removal of the clip - then when replacing simply weld the clip to the upstanding rivet shank (this will not affect the metal of the spring leaf since you would not be welding to this). Had a better idea Tony - sell the truck to me! Now what makes me think that's not going to happen? :drive:
  5. Well done. Over to Snap-On! I can get the length from the body aperture, we can guess the height and depth. I'd be a bit surprised if it was still current, but you never know. Looks expensive doesn't it!

So I take it you have changed the plugs, points and distributer cap this time then? I said all along it was a cracked distributer cap......
  7. Sorry no, I was in a state of shock too, just couldn't take it all in. Can I be cheeky and suggest - if anyone has an original box - if they could please post a photo of it we could forward it to Snap-On with the dimensions and see what comes of it. May be a U.S. market only item, but they should be able to source one or two for us......

    Question...

Perhaps he sold his cherished military vehicle and then regretted it?
  9. Tim, I stand corrected :n00b:. It was titled as a Higgins on a royalty-free archive WW2 photo site, just goes to show you cannot trust anything!!! Here is a LCM(3) (upper) and Higgins (lower) for comparison. Surprisingly the LCM has a capacity of 30 tons. Not sure about the Higgins boat :coffee:
  10. Why of course! Here's one heading for the Normandy beaches. Not a lot of room to spare though
  11. Christian, just put the address into a satnav - you will find it in their advert under 'spares' on Milweb.
  12. Nice to see someone else is concerned  In answer to your question, I'm led to believe the important parts will be saved. Rest assured that very few of the complete vehicles are of military origin, and the state of most of those that are might frighten you!!! (see Autocar thread). There may be better information in a few weeks, till then here's a big pair of "T"s for you :cool2:
  13. Tony B - got an artic licence? http://www.roadtransport.com/blogs/big-lorry-blog/loRM2010_014.jpg
  14. ACH, if you'd like to measure up a MJR power steering set-up on a vehicle at Norwich next week, PM me. Rams are readily available, and you will probably get a take-off ram, chassis bracket and reservoir from Spindlers or SBS Spares. The ram length is only an issue because it determines where on the chassis the bracket must be mounted - the travel will be similar on both vehicles. Looking at Richard's S-Type drawing it shoulkd be OK. Other question is whether you need to shorten the drag link by 2 or 3 inches. Alternatively give me the length of your drag link from steering box to axle steering arm and I'll see if it is possible. Tony
  15. I don't think a towbar is on the Ferrari accessories list :cool2: What's the problem here? 1) Get max. towed weight from vehicle data plate 2) Deduct something for the load (tools, driver, passengers) to give sensible max. towed weight - 85% sounds very sensible 3) Find a suitably sized/capacity trailer from Ifor Williams website (recommend min. 2 ft longer than jeep to allow for balancing trailer) given weight of jeep 5) Find weight of trailer from website (remember to add weight of sides etc if to be fitted) and add to jeep weight to calculate total towed weight, and compare to 2) above 6) Try 2.0t capacity and 3.5t capacity ranges to see what will work - heavier the trailer the better it will last/more useful it will be 7) If you can't afford Ifor Williams look at other makers Problem sorted!
  16. 65 amps alternator output? Or £65 needed for a new battery?
  17. Timespanner, you are reading abn's "signature line" which appears at the botttom of all his posts, and which gives the detail of his magnificent gmc and Ben Hur trailer :-D But look at the spare wheel located in front of the rear bogie - it's a 353 in the last picture :coffee: P.S. You can't get out of clubhouse new entrant chores by not introducing yourself :nono: :-D I forgot to say - "Welcome!"
  18. The Rolls Royce pickup ever caught on - and far too expensive for the army
  19. Cryogenically speaking - :nono: In fact, while you're up would you mind throwing another jeep on the fire please?
  20. Brake valve is the same unit for all big trucks.
  21. I'm not familiar with the petrol lump, but if you are lucky you may be able to swap the flywhel housing over on the two blocks? Are you going to put a 5 speed (Turner) box in? You have a choice of direct top (same as 4 speed?) or overdrive top (fast). On the MJ the front prop will run veryy close to the gearbox (especially if you have the shorter wheelbase chassis). Can anyone advise if this 5 speed conversion is O.K. on an RL?
  22. Are you sure it's in the wrong place Paul? If you think about it, one of the big advantages of your scheme could be the offer of temporary local storage prior to transportation back home. The worst part of breaking down is the pressure of having to organise something quickly before the police step in and arrange a commercial recovery on your behalf in order to clear the road. The prospect of somewhere relatively 'safe and friendly' to store your vehicle for a few days would greatly help in minimising recovery costs by giving you time to get organised. Has that auto electrical expert in Dorset signed up yet?
  23. No, not at all - and here's another little bit of "intel" for you....:cool2:
  24. I've always admired the utilitarian styling of those Junkers Tri-motors (and the Ford - what was the connection there, if any?), which might explain why I've always fancied the idea of running a Citreon 2cv corugated iron van :n00b: A very nice set of photos!
