  1. Here you go - wording on back of V11 (sent September 09): B What documents do you need? A valid MoT or Goods Vehicle Test Certificate - the certificate must be valid on the date the tax disc starts. Some vehicles do not have to have an MoT or Goods Vehicle Test Certificate. (See form V112 'Claim for Exemption from MoT Testing' or form V112G 'Goods Vehicle Testing - Declaration of Exemption'. You can download.....also get them from Post Office...... I can't see where it states on form V11 that either V112 or V112G forms should accompany the tax disc renewal appliation V11 :??? Of course it may well be that these V112 / V112G forms now state that you have to submit them with V11 (must confess I haven't looked recently) but I can confirm that not all Post Office operatives were aware of this as of 2nd October
  2. No Richard, I just can't see it!! The V11 I am looking at was sent to me in mid September and the wording is exactly as one sent in February this year and one in September 08. Perhaps they are using up old stationary :-D
  3. You all sure about this? I used to have to submit a V112G with tax disc renewal forms where Goods Vehicle Test Certificate was requested but was not in fact required. The last few years all I've needed to do is put a "X" in the box on the renewal form which states - "If you do not need a Goods Vehicle Test Certificate (that is, your vehicle is exempt) put a X in this box and see section B over the page". Last one I did was in September. The bit 'over the page' does not require one to submit a form of any sort with the application (or - more accurately - does not ask for a form) . I took a form in on two separate occasions to two different Post Ofices and was told they were not required. And no copy of the renewal notice is taken, it is given back to you. But of course if you declare no test required, you are likely to be liable for any consequences if that turns out not to be the case.
  4. That basic cab design has come a long way (not!!) from the WW2 Kenworth M1000 Series wrecker :-D But a lovely looking truck all the same. As they say - if it works, don't mess with it! Welcome Robin. What were you hoping to load the Kenworth up with - oil shale, dried cod or logs?
  5. Should this thread have a disclaimer attached? Understanding which Laws apply to any given situation can be difficult enough at times for the layman, but the interpretation of said laws is frought with difficulty, and is surely something best left to someone who is appropriately qualified. As a discussion topic it is of course interesting, but I do hope nobody reads anything more definitive into any suggested interpretations seen here! Do carry on.........:coffee:
  6. I like the use of flatbottom rail to extend the trailer bed!
  7. Fyll, those Power Wagon bomb trucks look to be a near identical re-work of the WW2 Chevrolet M6 layout. How fascinating!!
  8. Despite a tree being grafted onto it, the chassis of this Federal seems in better condition than its yard companion for many years - the Autocar.
  9. France 1 week ago :cool2: (Not me, I'm not that crazy!!!)
  10. Fascinating. But I haven't yet grasped how it could be loaded onto a train in one legth if it cannot be rolled back 180 degrees with anything less than the floating drum diameter in order to run back and forward along the train length.... But then there's an awful lot I haven't yet grasped.
  11. According to Baudin, in 1949 the pipeline emerging near to Querqueville (on ground then controlled by the French Navy) was still delivering 104 octane fuel to the French military (and no doubt a few others) by means of gravity, long after the tanks on the British side were showing empty!!! It is not known when it finally dried up.
  12. The drum method was just for laying the pipe in water. Once on land the pipeline was continued using rigid pipes (100mm dia? x 6m long) joined with bolted flanges/clamps. A very good book dedicated to just this subject - Quand l'or noir coulait a flots by Philippe Baudin ISBN 2-84048-187-1 Dual text in French and English
  13. It sounds great on tick-over, sadly the illusion is lost at high revs. But a fantastic achievement. I guess there would not be adequate power output at maximum full size speed (1,000rpm) even to propel a scale model along - despite the large flywheel? I've thought over the years about a scale slow speed engine but never quite got my head around the mathematics/physics of scale power/torque outputs from a miniature engine (anything above 2,800rpm is beyond my comprehension). You get no joy from running a short-stroke (or equal bore/stroke) modern small diesel at very low speed, I guess a properly miniaturised long-stroke design would fare better?
  14. Many thanks Gordon. Might give it a try if I'm feeling brave!!
  15. Sounds interesting - with your experiencde of using this material, do you think it is feasible to make up a roof lining for a closed cab GMC? Curves both ways!
  16. Spare a thought for poor old R3, must have taken him hours and hours to wrap that set of 10 Uniroyal 7.50x20s up (and quite a few yards of birthday paper) Happy birthday!
  17. Oh sorry, I rushed in with the front cover of the 0-6-0 Saddle Tank Austerity ! (Bit like the generic Hoover or JCB thing) Had a good look over a Kriegslok (the German equivalent of these big Austerities) in Poland - big brutal looking engine, simple enginering but the crew said it took over 3 hours to oil up due to almost impossible access (unless you are very small) to most lubricating points!! Unless you jack it up first:
  18. I don't believe so - the giveaway is the suet pastry. In Jack's pudding surely the bowl would be lined and topped with O.D. canvas, not pastry?
  19. You'll be needing a parts book then None of your austerity Ministry cream cover for these publications though, I like the patriotic use of the Union Jack. I wonder if the Ministry ever published their own manuals for these locos? Never seen one.
  20. Err, I don't want to worry you, Bernard - but while you were busy typing that...........
  21. I sat there for 4 minutes waiting for something to happen :coffee: before Mrs. N.O.S. came along and figured it out in 4 seconds. Oh well.
  22. If someone hurries, they can get a winch and 5th wheel for that (and a few more). Sacre bleu!
  23. Just a few, Mike - http://hmvf.co.uk/forumvb/showthread.php?t=13205 And that is a C2 40ft trailer - all of 50ft long with the bogie right at the back. How many show/airfield sites could you get that into?
