  1. Hi Tim, No, this was definitely a Renault, because when the sheet was pulled so that I could see a bit more, I saw "Renault Billancourt" on the hub. It was not restored either. Given its location, I am surprised no one else on the forum has mentioned it before.........as some of them frequented the place. I did not know who owned it.
  2. I am certain I came across one of these 4wd Renaults about ten years ago in a farm yard in Surrey. Looks like this one is over the other side of the Channel though (?).
  3. Hi Adrian, I was not giving to many clues, but did see the serial plate on the hull, denoting it had been a Finnish Charioteer, but thought it would give the speculators something to work on :-D ...........actually, think I'm tall enough already, always had trouble getting into "A" vehicles
  4. If it still does it after checking head torque, try using K-Seal HD, it is brilliant stuff, seals leaks no problem, does not block up system like the old type sealers. Go to a good motor factors who do commercial parts, the HD grade is for the large engines, you need to check the capacity of your cooling system to make sure you use the correct quantity for best effect. Try contacting them at enquiries@kalimex.co.uk and explaining your problem.
  5. None! It was in transit, by the company where I my workshop is. Not an unusual happening, just that Cromwells appear to be flavour of the month, so could not resist posting it
  6. Radek, Here is a link to the instruction manual for your engine; www.winget.co.uk/document/VILLIERS%20MK10%20&%2012%20OPS%20MANUAL%20JULY%201957.pdf
  7. My VW Caddy van is 1730kgs gross, and is car derived so no problem there, would have thought an Escort van was under 2000kgs all up.
  8. Hi John, It is a four axle Nooteboom extending trailer.
  9. Car derived vans, are same speed limits as cars, it is those vans and trucks that are over 2000kgs gross that are limited to 50 on single carriageways and 60 on dual carriageways and motorways. You would think the speed limits for vans such as Sprinter and Transit was 80 mph, by the way they want to pass everything on the road !
  10. Adrian, I guessed you had a hand in it :-)
  11. Radek, GPO was General Post Office, in charge of telephones at one time. Your generator has an army number on it, so definitely British Army issue.
  12. Look what has arrived outside my workshop this weekend :-D
  13. Hi Radek, I would date that generator set at around the late 1950's ( 1957 ?). There should be a makers name and part number on the spark plug, what is it?
  14. I have also inspected vehicles on behalf of the MVT, prior to their being registered. Also have registered vehicles with a MVT verification letter. The inspector still calls, all he is interested in, is physically checking the engine and chassis numbers and then he is off to the next one. What the club verifiction scheme does do, is to date the manufacture of the vehicle, from records on their database and/or evidence on the vehicle. Without this letter, you would have to go through hoops with the licensing office to get a date of manufacture accepted. So, the clubs verify the date and DVLA inspector checks vehicle has correct numbers.
  15. hi Ken, That is not very welcoming :-D...................unless you meant lunches, ah, now thats better. A very nice gesture to exhibitors. After hearing from Rippo about the event, it sounds great, just a pity it is a bit far for me.
  16. I was at the Pluto show at Lepe, when they took that Stalwart out to Isle of Wight, not the "round the island" trip, just over and back, but it got stuck on the groin on its return and had to be snatched off by a recovery truck.
  17. JS130 also features service and park brakes. Service is a hydraulic counterbalance valve, and park brake is spring operated and hydraulic released. ...........but this is getting away from the subject of Stormer, so I will leave it there :embarrassed:
  18. It was probably made as a side valve, due to width of the engine increasing further if it had been overhead valve. As it was, the cylinder heads could just be removed. Vauxhall and General Motors engines had been overhead valve for a good few years previous so to build the engine as a side valve, there would have been a strong reason for doing it in my opinion.
  19. Assuming you meant JCB 130, then it does have a secondary brake. The 130 has a Service Brake and a Park brake.
  20. I have seen this Dennis at a rally in East Sussex, a couple of years ago, think it came from around that area, it has a Kent registration so may not have moved far in its lifetime.
  21. Hi mate, The engine drain plug is accessed through a plate under the hull, situated approx. below the distributor and forward a few inches. Best of luck! Richard
  22. Hi Timbo, One appeared in the Land Rover club enclosure at Beltring some years ago, despite me asking around, no one knew who the owner was. I thought he might have been interested in a bit of background about it. Then a couple of years ago, I was talking to a friend from West Country and he had heard of one around the north coast area of Somerset or Devon, I forget the exact location he said.
  23. Mark, I was pulling your leg, East Kent had Arabs still in service in early 1960's, all with Gardners. In the yard where I work is a Lodekka with a 6LW, can stand for months, then it will start instantly, wonderful old engines...........and it does not smoke!
