  1. Unless new info has been found, I spoke to Brian years ago about this and he had never seen a list. Be aware that the AAW's are not military workshops, but often garages or manufacturers service centres who were contracting to the Ministry of Supply. A few have been identified, but I have not taken note of them.
  2. Sorry, but Eau-de-nil was used on engines in the 1940's, Sky Blue was not introduced until 1950 on. I have seen much evidence of this.
  3. Hi Bob, Good looking Daimler there. Welcome to the forum. regards, Richard
  4. Hi Michael, This subject rears up occasionally re. OM13, I would be interested to know how much a 25 litre drum of Aeroshell No.1 costs, as anything related to aviation usually comes at a premium and of a standard in excess of the requirements needed for a fluid flywheel or Saracen brake and steering system. I am well aquainted with the army oil designations having been involved with military and their vehicles for many years. I once spoke to Morris Lubricants and they advised to use their Liquimatic oil of ISO10 grade, which I have used over the years in a range of vehicles with no problems. Incidentally, OM15 is a "superclean" oil not issued to the army, only Navy and RAF as it is for aircraft hydraulics. regards, Richard
  5. There was a War on, they were saving metal ! Actually drag links often ar tubular, maybe in this case, the tube had too thin a wall. or it has had a shock load at some point and cracked though the weakest point.
  6. The contract plate has a Cat Ref no., which will be either 33 or 34 There are three groups of census numbers as follows; Z771480 to 771577 Cat ref 33 Truck, GS Z4176716 to 4182115 Cat ref 33 Truck GS Z4182116 to 4182715 Cat ref 34 Truck, Water tank That is all I can tell you. regards, Richard
  7. The body looked like a CMP, but the cab could have been an old Merc, or Tata, (it looked like it could have been in India or thereabouts).
  8. His first mistake was getting out of bed that morning :-D
  9. Gary, RR Services (Warpaint) do Ford engine grey in litre tins
  10. Ian, http://www.e-paint.co.uk/BS381%20Colourchart.asp , Eau-de-nil is no.216 on top row.
  11. The factory colour was black, on subsequent rebuilds up to about 1950, the colour was Eau-de-nil ( standard BS shade).
  12. John, The MRA1 engine was a Morris design, the K9 had the 4 litre Austin engine dating from the 3.5 litre introduced in 1939. Do not know of a diesel that would readily fit and match with the gearbox in your Morris.
  13. Mark, What you need to borrow, is an endoscope. Marvelous tool with a flexy tubing and lens on the end which you can work into the most remote places and view from the other end. It illuminates the view, I have used it to view inside engines and transmissions.
  14. Hi Karl, That photo location ........... Farthing Common on Stone Street by any chance
  15. I have seen a good few of these pipes on MJ's break off through vibration as well. if you have half a tank reading on the guage and the engine stops, it is a good sign the pipe has broken, as it is situated halfway down.
  16. Do not think so, they are still operating in army service, saw one yesterday on low level around where I work, looked like they were on an exercise.
  17. It has similarities to the Mk1 Supacat, that had a Citroen engine and transmission, but not a 2CV, think it was a four cylinder. The army had a few and I used to work on a couple which were used on the ranges.
  18. Tony, You mentioned the bit I forgot,.............................. if the belt still slips when turning the fan push your fist against one of the runs and it will grip more. This way you can often keep an eye on the points as you turn it over.
  19. Try tightening the fan belt, removing plugs and it should turn over easily by gripping the fan.
  20. I also have one, unissued, bought from a dealer many years ago, think it might have been MASH of Gloucester, who said he bought them from an auction at Bicester. Mine is date May 1942, and almost looks like it is airbrushed with patches of brown and green, leather is a light tan.
  21. Hi Bernard, Not surprised your tyres expired, you must have taken the long route to Dorset . M72 is in Scotland :-D
  22. They were always oily in the engine bay when in service, you have to remember the breather pipe is emitting an oily mist. Also check the hose fittings on cooler and filter at engine end. When combined with dust and crap the soon look pretty mucky within.
  23. That looks like Rolls own manual, the Army manual, known as EMER, stated 40 ft/lbs for 6.4:1 compression head and 47 ft/lbs for 7.25:1 heads, this goes across the board on B40, B60, B80 and B81 engines.
