  1. Hi Alec, OC600 is a straight SAE 140 gear oil. If you contact Morris Lubricants, it is AG140 in their list.
  2. Yes, you are on the right track. The large flange joints I am referring to are on the sides of the central casing, not sure what size the bolt heads are, could be something like 5/8"AF. Certainly not time wasting because you will likely see signs of leakage from somewhere under the covers. Nothing worse than oil running down the floor.
  3. Hi Mike, I am not sure if you have 18mm plugs or the normal 14mm, but my compression gauge has both thread sizes, so check that out. also, if you have not done a comp check before, make sure the throttle is wide open when doing this test, with all plugs removed. Popping in the air filter if due to a warped head and blowing gasket, is one cylinder firing through to its neighbour when it has an open inlet valve. regards, Richard
  4. Hi Mike, Did you check the cylinder head face for bowing when you took it off? If not, then I would not mind betting this is due to a warped cylinder head and when tightened back down it will not pull it straight, and the popping through the air filter is due to a compression leak between two cylinders. If you have a compression gauge, check the cylinders and my guess is no's 2 and 3 will be lower than the other two and equal to each other. Seen this many times before and only recently had to deal with one. The answer if bowed is to take the head to a machine shop to have its refaced. regards, Richard
  5. hi John, I thought this was probably what you were involved in ! Hope you have a few photos to share when you have done.
  6. hi John, I know you strive for authenticity with your restorations so should let you know that the engine colour "duck egg blue", actually Sky Blue, is a colour used on rebuilt engines from about 1950 onwards so not correct for an original wartime finish. regards, Richard
  7. A number of WW2 MV's have been doing film work this last week or so, here is some video taken at Duxford http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tk8c9vFdvyg
  8. Just a hunch, but over the years I have come across a number of ex-Cyprus UN Ferrets that have had bad leaks on their transfer boxes. Seems that where ever they were rebuilt (and I could never establish the workshop identity on the data plate), the side output cases of the transfer box had silicone sealer used on the joint faces. Over time this had squeezed out and bolts had become loose. A case of the wrong sealer in the wrong place. I suggest you check these bolts for tightness, as well as the drain plug of course.
  9. Yes Lee, I agree with that, but on my pc, I do not use that default email program, but use the one on my server (BT in my case). I suspect this is what Commando is doing. I know they do not go through Milweb.
  10. Why not just copy and paste the sellers email address straight in to your normal email page and send them that way.
  11. Yes, that's the one. Mark has taken it to Corowa a number of times
  12. I know someone with a NM6 which has a 6-71 Detroit in it, and it performs well off road as well as on.
  13. Hi James, You may not have seen some posts a few days earlier regarding the landing craft, see my post #1191 on this thread; http://hmvf.co.uk/forumvb/showthread.php?13807-Spotted-today&p=370709#post370709 as well as a few posts before and after. regards, Richard
  14. Another thread came up today from James Shopland, and it fills in the details of what the Landing Craft is doing on an industrial estate at Rye Harbour, it is in fact part of a major movie that has also been filmed at Duxford as well. http://hmvf.co.uk/forumvb/showthread.php?38947-Shopland-Collection-carries-George
  15. Hi Rob, check this out and others I remember Astran trucks and their depot up near Wrotham, there is a good book written recently all about the drivers and their exploits.
  16. Thanks Lee, There was certainly a lot of activity in the area today.
  17. Usually it is the traders who provide the hospitality ....... to win the punters customers over.
  18. A bit of intuition has led me to the Landing Craft that a few of us saw on the road on Sunday. It is on a film set in a yard at Rye Harbour, set up on a frame work, with huge fans nearby and a hose off a fire hydrant, they were spraying it in the fan when I saw it, behind is a large screen to block out the background. Other locations seem to be set up around the town, I was told there were some old fishing boats brought in and a large ship or boat off the coast and what might be some scenes at Camber Sands. Aerial platforms everywhere. This might be for a Channel 4 feature tomorrow, showing how the invasion unfolded to the hour.
  19. The actual pedal can become tight on its pivot, so may not be fully returning, also ensure clearance on push rod that operates the M/cyl. Have seen problems where reservoirs are filled to high and with a blocked breather cap, this can also allow a slight pressure to rise in the system.
  20. An odd layout, injectors are in the block and not the head :undecided:
  21. As I said in my post on 31st May, the Hill 112 memorial is looked after by the Hill 112 Association made up mainly of people of the local community. They are painting the tank with paint supplied from over in the UK. They look on this as their responsibility.
  22. Thanks Gary, I thought somebody else might have seen it. The location I saw it in means it was not going too much further.
  23. While sitting with some friends enjoying a cup of tea at a classic vehicle show, I saw a lorry going down the A2070 towards Romney Marsh carrying what looked like WW2 landing craft, it was some distance away and the others were amazed how I recognised it. We speculated its destination and the possibility there is filming going on down here.
  24. Bill, your rims will be too narrow for 11.00-20 tyres and you may well have clearance problems on the fronts.
