    WW1 Steam?

Well I got the date right! :-D I'd date the engraving to the Franco/Prussian War, though you could well argue that was the start of WW1.'
  6. Pre GPS a person powered Gyro compass.

    WW1 Steam?

The military were using steam traction engines long before the First World War. I be inclined to date that picture to the late 1800's.
  9. Now your'e confusing me (Not difficult I admit) the 'Things' are electrical powered but the outlets are not electrical? So are they a mechanical drive? Some sort of anti roadside IED counter measure.
  10. So we have US 1967, and something that has multiple out/in put sockets on the sdie? There is also a heavy cable running up apprently behind the cab. Is something missing from the back, such as a communications box?
  11. Spraying agent Orange and other assorted nastys along jungle trails to cause foliage to drop off. So if no liquids are involved, are they elctrical or radio attenna connections on the side of the truck?
  12. Spray heads for a decontamination unit? Or Vietnam defolinat truck.
  13. Welcome Adrian, there are those of us with a knowledge of horses and agriculture as well as the military here. So you'll be right at home.
  14. That Carriage is more probably the test slege. There was one mounting a 240 mm barrel outside Rotunda for years. Since the collection finally moved to Forepower haven't ben up there in years so can't say if it is still there. May get up today so will have a look.

  16. To quote from the latest Terry Pratchett, 'I'll drink water, when the fish get out to pee'! :-D
  17. The Vietnameise were very unsporting in things like this. They sprayed Buffalo urine round places and totally confused the detectors.
  18. I was told a tale by an ex RASC Major about Dodges in the Far East. He was in charge of a transport company that had Morri's. One day a vehicle hit a Water Buffalo. Not wanting to waste meat the crew stuck the carcass in the back of the truck and brought it back. The trouble was the company had a number of Hindu troops, they refused to drive the vehicle afterwards. It was arranged to return it to depot. As he arrived he noticed the then new Dodge's. There followed negetioations involving Schotch, ciggarettes and such like and home went the Major with a 51 and a 52. After that the 51 would trail blaze, the 52 brought up the rear to recover any stuck vehicles. The down side was the combination was so succeful any dirty job came their way.
  19. The last time I embarresed my Dodge was on Goldbeach, this year. Not following rule one, go back on the same tracks you came out on , and whoops! Front end right in, with half a dozen people in the back. Nochalantly select reverse rock a bit and out she came, as expected. :iloveyou:
  20. Hydroganated Glucose Syrup? Maragarine and sugar. MRE's I was always told, never use yellow snow and never eat Brown packed MRE's. Did break second rule, only once. :nut::pfrt::noyay: The last lot I saw for sale were in clear packs of twelve, 6 had packs of 20 Marlboror 6 didn't. I was told they were clear packed so that it could be seen there were no pork products in them. :???
