  1. there's discussion on this in the Bren on a Jeep thread. The big problem with the drum mag for infantry is that the sights on the gun are covered.

    Didn't Nord build a copy? With a rotary engine? I heard one pilot talking about a Storch, he reckoned flying one of them meant you didn't need to bother with a helicopter. Wasn't that the aircaraft Skorney used to get Mussuolini off the mountain? Didn't Hannah Ricter land one in a Berlin street a few days before the surrender? also didn't a Britsh General use one as a liason aircraft? Must get to see it.
  10. Magic!! Off then! :goodidea::yay::yay::dancinggirls:

  17. Welcome in, your addiction will be well fed here.
  18. Is it a functional gun, or a training piece? It looks very much like a Vickers K gun. Though were the magazine is supposed to mount I can't see. It looks like there are two electrical contacts underneath. Is there some form of light fitting in the barel end?
  19. Long weekend Steve? The story I heard about the K Guns and the SAS was, Stirling was looking for kit in Eygpt. The RAf had a number of K's in storgage, having been fitted to things like Hinds and Harts. Being compact,light, high rate of fire, designed to be mounted on a moving vehicle and most importantly available, they were grabbed.
  20. Mac, I was thinking of factory sirens last night. I recall seeing similar sirens on the side of range buildings. As you say the siren was found in Australia, I wonder if it may have been part of the various range equipment over there? If it was part of a battery fed emergency system, that would explain the voltage. The rail use was just a brainstorm, there were vehicles modified to run on rails for various purposes. The thought of a tractor trundeling round a site to warn of emergencies, now that is bizzare. :-D
