  1. I've also got two pairs of them. A few years back they were selling for pennies, like Series 3 Land Rovers, now the supplies are drying up. P.S. Also take Sterilings, just closer together.
  2. All energy ends up as heat. When you consider all the stuff moving about in a gear box it does get warm. It would get a lot hotter and noiser if the oil wasn't there! If you can hold it it isn't overheating. One thing a lot of people neglect, check the breathers on axles. The oil expands when it gets hot and displaces the air in the axles, if not they over pressure and blow seals.
  3. Most likley radium at that age! Beware you'll glow in the dark! :-D Radium was used up to 1970's belive it or not.
  4. Nice period looking watch anyway. Any date? Could be 1930's to 1950's. Wristwatches came into fashion post Great War. Deson't look to have a luminous face so probaly a civillian version. The company di supply some watches to German forces, but I'm not familiar with any marks that would be aded.
  5. Somewhere the trailer should be marked with 12 or 24 V, so you know before hitching. :-D
  6. Would you belive? The hosepipe ban has been lifted, it's just been to wet to use one! :noyay:
  7. Never enough space is there? Welcome along
  8. Sickening isn't it? There's a good chance most of Fort Halstead will end up as a council estate!
  9. So some good came of buying it then. Welcome in.

  17. Bit later, I was on contract security at Woolwich just as it was closing, then went on to Main as MOD Staff in 1990 , and up to the Fort, where I knew a lot of the people as I live near by. Was up there five years, when the privatisation started a lot of the originals decided time to retire etc, and I decided time to move on.

    Oh that's rich!
  19. Or in the case of Number One Son, change the bulbs from 24 volt to 12 volt, then they will glow properly on the back of his Discovery! :-D He may well have a full set of 24 volt bulbs somehwere!
  20. The old joke about 101's is that most people give directions by the local pubs, a 101 owner will do so vis the local petrol stations. Though I did get a lot of fun out my 101. Incidently, the tyre pressures on mine were in black over each wheel.
  21. :pfrt: Some of the original design team were still at FH when I was there. One of the chaps at the original Rotunda artillery musuem had been on the development team as well. A lot of stories about trials, and what didn't get into the official reports.:-D
  22. I'm not jealous at all, I'm really not, honest!
  23. Can't you post pictures of those ? PLEASE!! Sketches and drawings are often more evocative than photos as they are the direct result of a person's eyes and hands via the brain.
