  1. The other bit could be a Whale. These were pontoons with legs that could be dropped to fix to the sand but allow the pontoon to float up and down. I'd suggest this picture was taken after the storm had wrecked most of the equipment.
  2. Seriously, rub a bit if dust into the bristles then wipe with a cloth and dip in paint. It does give a rough aged finish.
  3. Six volt batteries can be a real pain in every part to charge. Mine wouldn't charge on the mains so I lost my temper stuck it on the vehicle jumped with twelve volts and left the engine running. Charged up perfectley and holds charge. I am assuming you know if the vehicle is positive or negative earth. So as suggested just either use a single 12 volt, or jump start and leave the vehicle running Whilst it is running check voltages with multimeter. A Dynamo should give about 13.2 to 13.6 volts. DON'T try reading amps, most multi meters won't cope with the ampage and will melt (Literally) . Clicking solinoids can mean a flat batery, OR one of the connections to the battery terminals is loose or dirty. Check all the battery leads are tight, including the connection from battery to starter motor. If that is dirty or loose, won't go!
  4. Took long enough to get here Doug! :-D
  5. Sorry I won't get down to see you . Enjoy.
  6. Met Office Be Aware weather warnings out over the next couple of days for London and SE England. Brollys and wellies boys! Anyone with a DUKW is laughing.
  7. It's the old problem Jack Cameras do not lie, of course they don't , but people who use them do! Though the Flag raising at Iwo Jima, and the Spanish soldier being shot on the trench, not to mention quite a few portions of the 'Battle of the Somme' come to mind. Any number of 'Iconic' photos have turned out to be staged. Though the old chestnut about what were the first words the first photographer spoke ? comes to mind 'Right luv, get your kit off!':-D I used to take photos for use as evidence in courts. Even the angle you hold a camera of the position you take the photo from can lead the viewer to totally diffrent conclusions.
  8. Use a dirty paint brush in the first place! :-D
  9. Oh come on Gents!! That is taking bio fuel a bit far! It really can be said to be taking the P***. :nono:
  10. Welcome Shirley, you and Peter are very welcome. The Dodge Fraternity of the Clubhouse will soon be in the ascendent! Please post pictures. Nothimg wromg with the younger generation getting intrested in the Great War, she'll find a lot of help and encouragement here as well.
  11. It really is an austounding restoration of what was looked on in it's day as an ordinary van. She'll look great in the show ring, though with the amount of welding wire you've used , you could have knitted a complete vehicle. :-D
  12. Intresting photos. The basic design hasn't changed much. The side ramp was similar to those used on rail trucks. It must be a double hinge, looking at the support stands and angle of the ramp. There is a swinging three quarter height partion to divide it into two parts. Any sling incidentally would be a two part. A single sling would cause pressure under the stomach. With a horse's physiology that would crush the lungs. There would also need to be a bar or partion at the front to stop the animals banging into the cab bulkhead. This will give you an idea of the slings http://www.equisling.com/equisling.htm
  13. A must place to vist! So varied , not only military memorials. I spent a good four hours wandering around and only scratched the surface.
  14. Sympathy? Refer him to the dictionary! Anyway with the current Bio Disiel debate , I might even be able to grow a decent crop of mushrooms on the side.
  15. Welcome Diego. Nigel is the man you need, and there is a picture of a horse drawn horse ambulance on the forum. If you are talking the motirised version. You are quite correct that there are a number of diffrent bodies. Motor boxes were a new phenomenon at the time. Companies such as Lambourn stated to build various bodies to customer's order so each was diffrent. Any Horse ambulance would have to have one or two hoops and/ or a longditudanal beam capable of holding the weight of a horse unable to stand.
  16. After 70 odd years any vehicle is going to have undergone any number of changes. Looks great.
  17. Kent weather currently about one season every 6 minutes. :-D If it 'aint raining it's about to!
  18. Just an idea to show you how she looks at the moment. The primer filler on the rof line is emergency hole patching. The other side has had the same problem in the past. So back in probably 1952 a pice of steel has been cut, laid over the area and screwed in place. Markings are for a vehicle in England about 1943 hence the blackout lines. The roof light is probably post war, but agin I don't want to take it off as it is part of her history.
  19. WC 54 with Blackout lines. Nice effect.
  20. I was planning a satin finish. You all know she has a special history for me, so I do want her to be that bit more elegant than the normal. I can get enough of the Duluck's Metalsheild to cover her for about £56, the colour is a good match and the stain finish easier to look after than plain matt.
  21. Bloody disasterous I'd have thought. Even if it stops tommorow the ground is going to take a month to dry out enough to get on.
