  1. Might be worth a timing check. A few degrees on my two Dodges has given me an extra couple of miles, and on their fuel consumption, that's significant! :-D

    Books!!

One just off the press! Theo Knell's Hell for Heroes. I've never been into poetry much above 'There was a young lady... type. But I heard an interview with the authour on the BBC Radio 4 and was intrigued so bought the book. When it arrived I skimmed through and the pages opened on the poem The Genie, so I read it before anything else. It had me in tears! The book is mixture of stories of his life in the army , Para's and SAS and his poems, if you want an insight into a soldiers life this is it!Definite for the Christmas list!
  3. There are plenty of companies that proffesionally rebuild compases. The liquid is probably pure alcahol, and it eveaporates over time. You will also need to swing the compass. Ah that takes me back..... a long time ago helped a guy who worked on aircraft. Compass swinging involved taking the aircraft out to a specially laid out pad of concrete with no metal. The plane was then aligned on 10 degree intervals and variation from calcuated magnetic bearing listed. You have to do the same with the lights on as this can have quite a marked diffrence. REMEBER Tired Vigins Make Dull Company! True North, +/- Varation = Magnetic course, =/- Deviation= Compass course. Much easier on boats and ships as you have room for Kelvin's Balls. :-D
  4. Do you mean this type? There must be a minimum size specified somewhere. One Vetran complained to me he was getting old, going out through the door! He always used to go the cupolas and down the bonnet. :-D
  5. Just to confuse the issue! I've just flicked through the book Bedford to Berlin and Beyond. That shows pictures dated 1944 and vehicles with no cupolas! There is a picture on page 51 of a QLB, the guy poking out of the cupola has a Bren with the bipod resting on the cab roof.
  6. Well Phil's, now Jemima's QLR was an early one and that has the cupola, so a later addition?
  7. The QL cupola was for observation. Much to light to take any form of weapon. It was a standard fitting on all the British vehicles with a hard top I can think off. The 1939 ones had them.
  8. A mate of mine at work, was 23, he drives a 35 foot long 8 foot wide Scania Omnicity around all day, and the public do count your supposed to look after them! And he couldn't get insured on a 1600cc car!!!
  9. Well Katy HAS to go! And Phil wants to bring the Wolesley, so who the e^&* is going to drive Ruby? PAM!!!:-D
  10. Do a 1:1 and I'd move in tommorow!
  11. The engine as such dosen't care about voltage. It is the rest of the electrics that do that. :-D
  12. That's the thing! The computer is only a couple of weeks old! Old Faithful expired with a scarmbled scream. Despite immidiate First Aid and a mad dash to PC World it was declared Knackerd on Arrival!
  13. Worth printing and keeping a copy in the vehicle or the next few months.
  14. I'm going right off you Lot! ******* Can't get any smileys now! Why are you all picking on me?
  15. Welcome Gordon, quite a few modelers here.
  16. Is it only me or has the smiley selcetion disapeared? When I clik on more all I get is and empty screen with titles but no smilies.
  17. Ever heard the one about fish with bicycles?
  18. Welcome, money is more of a problem when you own an MV!
