  1. Hi, Been searching through hundreds of family photos and found a fair number of my Dad on National Service in Austria, late 40's/early 50's. They are mostly of same/similar type trucks just in different locations. I don't know who took them so I can't acknowledge them. Some show specific people with the trucks but I don't know who they are. Is it still ok to post them? If so how many do you post at one time? Amongst these there are Austrian postcards showing towns, and written on them are pointers showing things like the cookhouse, bathhouse, dormitories ect. I also have some group photos of the local Home Guard. Are any of these of interest for posting? Thought it best to ask before making a mistake. Rob. ps. Don't hold your breath, the scanner's on the fritz so it may take a while!
  2. Having an idle half hour and found this picture. Thought it may be of interest. http://www.francisfrith.com/crondall/photos/cars-in-village-1930_83435x/
  3. When you say 'Longtown', are you referring to what became RAF 14MU at Carlisle? There is (or was - late 1980's) a large shunting yard in close proximity, and the wagon's markings would suit that area too. Didn't RAF Rudloe Manor have a narrow gauge?
  4. I'm sure this has been posted before, but the sentiment is the same.
  5. Just a thought, if the switches regularly burn out due to arcing, would it not be cost effective to fit a high ampage relay in the circuit? Easier to replace as well. I'm not familiar with Jeep gubbins at all but previous experience with another vehicle with a pressure type switch led me to fit it with a brake light switch from a Honda C50 mounted under the dash and attached directly to the brake pedal as I discovered the brake lights didn't work until you had already applied about 50lbs of pressure to the pedal! Bit late for my liking...
  6. Slightly off topic, but it has been done with a tractor... The only tractor ever logged passing the Goodwin lightship.
  7. I would say some sort of anti-aircraft gun chassis showing a mechanism for single lever outrigger deployment?
  8. This one was on the Safteng site... I also like the guy welding his truck from underneath.
  9. This is a good place to see some more scary things... http://www.safteng.net/index.php?option=com_zj_downloads&view=category&id=11&Itemid=172
  10. Thanks guys. Until about ten years ago there was still one of the red bikes in a garage locally but unfortunately the owners have passed and the bike gone. So we'll go with 'mostly home made'! That's fine with me, thanks for your help.
  11. ...Is not a new hobby! http://www.britishpathe.com/video/tank-as-war-souvenir/query/crane
  12. Hi, I'm trying to identify the make of bike used in this film clip. Knowing some of those involved it's very likely at least some of these machines (and the lorry) are ex military. Edited to add - lots of interestong films on this site! Thanks, Rob. http://www.britishpathe.com/video/motor-cycle-football-motorcycle-football/query/MOTOR+BALL
  13. oh dear, what have I started? Anyone got an asprin?:undecided:

  15. Made some enquiries with a local supplier for AlBee... 9.6 litres acetelyne 11 litres O2 Trolley New Year special Offer - £399 I'm still waiting for refill prices.
  16. Can they get it flying before the Vulcan is grounded?
  17. Thanks for your help guys. Been getting concerned about this but feeling better now. Happy New Year! Rob.
  18. Thanks for the advice. I'm curoius about the 'commercial' side of this as although I took my class 1 in 1986 I've never used it commercially. It's only ever been borrowing a truck to move a vintage tractor and similar so I doubt I ever will go commercial. I don't even have a tacho card as I've never had a truck new enough! That said, what enquiries I have made have suggested that if I don't take it I will lose the hgv entitlement completely and have to start all over again. My renewal is due April '14. Rob.
  19. Has anyone had any dealings with the 'Driver CPC'? I need to find out what it costs, where to get it, what is involved, and what happens if I haven't got it by renewal time. Thanks. Rob.
  20. Thanks for the info. I'll have to look into this as I do use Oxy-Acet but not often enough to warrant renting. Interesting stuff. Rob.
  21. Hi, Not sure where to put this thread so if it needs moving - feel free! I was reading another thread and there was a mention of 'Outright Purchase' of bottles to save rental. How does it work, and can it be done with Oxygen / Acetelyne? Thanks.
