  1. It still used to make a great sight every weekend. You could hear the whine from the engines, and the noise of the tracks from 500 yds away. You would then look and see a convoy of lights and orange beacons. It always would stop people in there tracks(pardon the pun) Funny thing was there was always a fitters 109 or 110 following behind
  2. This was mid 80,s through to the very early 90,s..I am assuming it was from there. As i followed a convoy of Foxes and CVRT,s once from the gate.It followed the exact route up Clapham road, where i used to see them go past every saturday and sunday mornings.
  3. Another vehicle to cross off the wants list then.great thread though.I did think they were quite stable.I was rather impressed with them after going for a blast around the arena in Lee,s one at beltring last year.
  4. I have heard about them being top heavy. But was that enough of a reason to withdraw them from service???. Surely from a maintaince point of view,,the drive train must be less complex than a CVRT???.I thought that would have been enough to keep them in service,or were there other issues?.
  5. If there are only 50 left worldwide. Then what happened to the other 250 or so that made up production?. Just memorys now.But iremember seeing these along with CVRT,s every weekend trundling along Clapham road s.e.london.They were operated by the royal yeomanary T.A unit out the duke of yorks on the kings rd.You wouldnt get any T.A unit now with armour.
  6. Your right i do love the Jag engine. But the 4.2 straight six happened to be one of the worst engines built by Jaguar. In the cars they were forever snapping conrods. And had major issues with over heating.
  7. Visibilty for the driver is poor.Especially puling out from side turnings. But.................................I would love one.they sound lovely on the move.
  8. Having visited headley court, its a very humbling experiance indeed.
  9. You can see the whole series on youtube.A bit laborious. But its available there.I remember chatting to my cousin before christmas(42 commando) Had regular contacts on a daily basis. Not long completed a third tour.Told him he is on a short straw with luck if he does a forth.
  10. I dont know if anyone on here managed to watch both the two series on Sky1,with the last one finishing on sunday?. I would just like to say that my opinion of RK has gone up after watching the series.I think he done a lot of justice for the British soldier serving there. he spent some time at headley court and seeing the rehabilitation work going on.How that fella survived being blown up in that Viking is beyond me.There was nothing left of it.the series ended on a sad note with the death of Marine Travis Makin, while RK was only a few hundred meters away. That program was dedicated in his memory.A great series that truelly deserves an award, and a  for Kemp in portraying the work our armed forces.
  11. The LR and the Jeep are covered on my RAC policy. But the Ferret due to weight, will have to be covered by someone else.
  12. Well gave FJ another call today. And at last someone who knew what they were talking about. Now my premium last year from Roadsure or what ever they are called was £570 including break down cover on the Ferret. My quote from FJ was £213 for the Jeep LR101 and Ferret. The break down cover i will sort out seperatley as Neil mentioned.Nice result.
  13. The Cadmans had a M26 Pacfic dragon back in the early 90,s.I dont know if they still have it??.
  14. A lot of B52,s were cut up as a result of SALT 2(strategic arms limitation treaty). At one point there was over 750 B52,s in service with SAC.
  15. Just glad to have helped.
  16. Some pics that maybe of help... In service recce rovers.....
  17. Tony any chance you posting a pic up of your old beast?.I remember it back in the late 80,s.When you and your other half used to take it to shows. You used to keep it at Westerham if i am correct?.
  18. The electronics were terrible on the XJ40.It looks like the indicator stalk is playing up.Known problem. There is no brain for that side of the electronics. The only thing with a seperate "brain" was the headlights.Or light module as it was called.A complete pain in the a**e.I replaced to sets of those at £125 each.Things vastly improved from 91 on up until the introduction of the X300.
  19. Think what you like I have the pictures to prove. Will post them. (Ohh hold on.There maybe some copyright issues,as i didnt take all of them). It just shows the quality of the mans work, when he was restoring Jeeps.
  20. I wanted my Jeep to be restored to a factory fresh one, after seeing Tony Sudds example as a kid parked in Dunton Road Bermondsey outside his local motor factors. It was a sunny day,and it was parked outside some pre-war cottages. It just looked so right. This was echoed by my father, who was fortunate as a kid to be passenger in many a "Brand new" Jeeps from late 42.His sister was engaged to a U.S. officer in military intelligance. And spent many a time being dropped off to his home next door to the NAFFI in Kennington south london.Has he said it was something to be travelling around in a Jeep.Because at that time not a lot of people knew what they were,as they had not long been introduced, and a new vehicle at that......... Our Jeep as restored by Tony Sudds. Also regarding the in service look.I remember walking through rows of 101 as a kid in Chelsea Baracks. All nicely presented in one coat of Nato Green. And not a dent or pop riveted repair plate in site.So there are many ways to have that in service look.
  21. I like the factory look. But also like the look of a used and abused vehicle in a diorama se-up.For us when it came to restoring a Jeep,we wanted a factory fresh example. There are enough tired and roppey Jeeps on the show circuit as it is.I didnt want to add another.
  22. Definitly them.I am wondering if they have new staff,as mentioned in another thread about a takeover.
