  2. chrome has started to work now
  3. I believe there was a camp at Great Yarmouth but why pick the Pier, it may be an outing like you said, but an outing just down the road?
  4. I bought this photograph about a year ago and recently i have been researching the story, as you can see there are a lot of U boats that were bought in to Harwich. These were dealt with by the Harwich Force who played quite a large role during the first world war. 122 submarines and associated craft were bought to Harwich. Apparently the whole German U boat fleet was surrendered at Harwich Below are some links to tell the story of Harwich force and what happened to U boats after ww1. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harwich_Force http://www.iwm.org.uk/collections/item/object/17787 http://www.historyhouse.co.uk/articles/uboats_in_british_ports.html
  5. Picked this up a while ago and i thought i should share. Any ideas why the photo was taken here and not anywhere else?
  6. Any ideas on what this is for? I'm guessing British, looked in several books and cannot find it
  7. could the first be a display from a factory who made these, either wartime to show what they are using or post-war showing the things that won the war. The second could be vehicles that are awaiting repair in the USA from airfields etc that have been involved in crashes or something similar Note the jeep is a slat grille I have been trying to look up what the EAC is i found this http://www.eac.dk/phoenix.zhtml?c=138567&p=irol-index which has something to do with docks but in asia There is a soldier in the jeep (suggests a military attendance not just factory workers) Never seen the type of tyre before that is in the dodge
  8. Just been looking around, could this be the Nuffield Airborne Tractor? They had a strange top
  9. Likewise , google chrome
  10. the condition is a lot better than mine, i have the wrong forks and wheels. Looking closely at your bike it would seem that the forks are pointing the wrong way, if you look at the picture below the forks point outwards rather than inwards. Also i'm not sure if you have non-military carb, the military ones were just brass, yours may be from similar era lawnmower, The screw top of the carb which is undone to remove the needle is identifiable as military id the "grip" to turn it is crossed like XXXX but if it is civilian it has vertical grips like llllll . Villiers services stock the XXXX type and probably have the full brass carbs, i will send some photos. Another thing which i would need to confirm is that a lot of welbikes have clutch levers with the lever pointing towards the rider (mine does not and i don't think yours is) i am unsure id this is right or not i will try to check. Other than that yours seems to be very good! I am jealous. Martyn
  11. Sounds like you have a bit of work to do, luckily mine is only brazed on so it is reversible but i am dreading that it is covering up some damage around the frame number area. If you need some photos of the engine rebuild or anything else i have lots more than what i have posted on my thread so if you give me your email i will happily send you them. The rebuild is really quite simple as long as you have the manuals and record what goes where. If you are stuck with something Villiers services know absolutely everything! One thing that Villiers services did say is that the clutch is filled with a hard to find oil, i would not attempt to use any other oil than the stuff they recommend just to be safe. You will also need an arbor press or something similar it is almost impossible without one. The manuals are available here http://www.welbike.co.uk/page3.html there is also a lot of history and information on the bikes here and the guy is very knowledgeable. I would not try to get parts from india because (as you said) i have heard the quality is not great. I personally would only deal with welbike uk as they are the only ones i know of that do exact replica parts, there are some others but the designs can be a bit inaccurate. Is that your bike at the top? any questions just ask Martyn
  12. They are still there, same shop i believe too. They have the occasional good lot of stuff in but apparently it is not as good as it used to be
  13. Will have a look today and see how big they are, you may be right
  14. Hi there Nice to see another welbike owner on the forum. Mine has the similar problems as yours with the welded stem etc. If you need to look where parts go i have started a thread on here of my restoration.http://hmvf.co.uk/forumvb/showthread.php?26806-My-Welbike-Restoration For parts (as said above) use welbike uk, they make the best quality parts and they have anything you need, if they don't have it they will make it for you. Their parts are not cheap but the quality does show, there is a price list on the website. They also sell bearings. For any engine parts use http://www.villiersservices.co.uk/ pay no attention to the parts on the website, give them a call and you will find they stock absolutely everything related to a Villiers engine. I done a complete engine rebuild and they supplied every nut and bolt and good prices and next-day delivery. For photos i look at this site http://www.harko.at/welbike/ but beware it is wrong in several places. If you need a copy of the manuals just ask Good luck with the restoration and if you need any details or photos just ask. Martyn Hillyard
  15. Never seen those before, strange things. Not very streamlined
  16. spotted a 1970s one a jacks in Colchester today for something like £4.50. I think it was 1972 or 1974. not sure if it was a good price or not
  17. just found this, looks like a jeep but a strange top. Also the bonnet mounted tyre
  18. Not sure if these help, i will try to find more info later. There seem to be a lot of references to dim-outs rather than blackouts http://acepilots.com/wwi/zeppelin.html http://www.bpears.org.uk/Misc/War_NE/w_section_06.html http://www.historylearningsite.co.uk/home_front_1914_to_1918.htm
  19. On ebay: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Pinzgauer-718-TD-/170747288479?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item27c154db9f#ht_721wt_1396
