  1. Ahhhhhh so it does not matter what type of trailer connection it is as long as max train weight does not exceed 8250 Kgs (on old license) and it has type approved breaking system.
  2. Sorry this is nothing to with anything Military but thought this would be the best place to get a sensible answer, well hopefully. We went up to the NEC yesterday to the caravan show on a jollie !!!!! on our travels round the show we came across a company selling 5th wheel caravans, I struck up a conversation with a salesman on the stand as you do, and found out these are designed to be towed by a Nissan Nivara or the like which the company fit air suspension to and the 5th wheel coupling to the bed. However I was very surprised to be told that as the total weight for caravan and pickup was 7300 Kgs you were able to tow this set up as a 5th wheel on an ordinary B+E license, this also appears on their web site !! So my question is when do you need C+E on your license going by this person if you have B+E the total weight could be up to 7500 Kgs and be a 5th wheel. So if you have C1+E with code 107 on your license the total weight could be 8250 Kgs Does it make any difference that it is not on a tow ball. Confused :nut:
  3. So why so many that appear to be too narrow for the front of the trucks
  4. I think the car car was doing something stupid and has run into the back of the Matador :nut:
  5. I know of people who have removed the in tank pump and fitted the standard facet pump on the body somewhere. also easy for future changes.
  6. Evening all, are there any differences between a GMC bonnet and a Chevy bonnet, this is mainly aimed at the width of the bonnet at the front most part which would sit over the rad, it seems my bonnet at this point is too narrow by about an inch overall. It is narrower than the front side panels above the front part of the wings. Any ideas ?
  7. So does that now mean that a pre 1960's land rover where before the new ruling came in you could carry a load and now that it does not need an mot you can only use it unladen
  8. This morning, Kraz 255B on low loader heading East on M27 between M3 junction and A3.
  9. Moving sideways a little on this then, if your driving license allows you to drive up to say 7.5tonnes, a GMC is 5 tons empty and can carry a load of 2.5 tons giving a total load of 7.5 tons. Would this then mean that you would be legal to drive the GMC loaded with only your own possessions ? What does the "use unladen" refer to:- is it your license in so much as what you are entitled to drive ? or does it have a bearing on the pre 1960 thing, vehicle tax disc ie being "Historic" or not ? as several have said a bit grey !!
  10. Don't forget the supports for the slats and seats are steel and then the hood bow legs slide inside those which are in turn inside the bed side pockets !! But without the pic I don't know what I am on about
  11. I have one of these I picked it up from W and P several years ago best bit of kit I got for the wheel nuts. just use the shock wrench to do up the nuts as tight as this will do them and you should have no problems, If you use a long bar instead to make it easier to do them up you can over tighten them and also it can force the socket off the nuts as you are putting a sideways force on them when you push down on the long bar. Using a shock wrench is like the old fashioned wheel brace in the shape of a cross except the ends of the bits you hold are weighted so this gives the impact to do up or undo the nuts.
  12. Is there anywhere in the UK that supply spares for these engines mainly after inlet / exhaust gaskets.
  13. Don't forget all lights used on road going vehicles must be E marked otherwise if not you could get in to all sorts of stickiness with law and insurances...
  14. Great, thanks, did think they were NPT just wanted confirmation.
  15. Hi all are there any experts out there that know what sizes the bottom and top fuel fittings are on a 352 fuel tank ?
  16. We will be there late Fri night, with Coffee, Tea and biscuits and some beer tooooo....... See you all there.
  17. Less than a week, cant wait just a shame the CCKW 352 and 105mm howitzer wont be there, absolutely gutted about that as its the only missing Artillery piece from the guns you have coming..... But next year it will be there... Roll on next weekend
  18. Surely if people have got them mothballed it would be worth it for one outing to beat all others, do it just once to get the most GMC CCKW's in the UK in one place at one time would be a stunning sight and probably the largest gathering of trucks since the war, probably a Guinness record !!!!! Get Jack on to it he can work his magic again.... To all you GMC owners out there looking at this thread what do you think just a one time trip just once..... go you know you all want to.
  19. Hmmmm always wondered about you..... what you get up to with rubber accessories is your business I have heard that the war time paint fumes can do funny things to people...
  20. Not at the moment I have much more important things to do first :undecided:
  21. So you know what the next step is  What you need to do is get contact details of the vehicles for their current owners and try to sort out a GMC gathering in a central area convenient for all.
  22. This is all very interesting as my truck lives outside all the time uncovered and has never had a seal in the cowl vent what purpose does it serve also never had any issues with rain getting in usually gets in other places when driving !!!!
  23. Well I am with you on this if I ring and do a deal on the phone I mean to stick to it and I would expect the other party to do the same. Just because that's how the world is changing to who comes first with the money regardless of arrangements over phones ect does not make it right, it just goes to show you are better than them....and maybe it was not meant to be, could be a blessing in disguise.

    Safety

Something I think people don't think about with the large whip ariels on their vehicles and also the much larger masts when setting up their camps at shows is how much distance they should leave from electric overhead lines, I have seen masts very close to even pylons of which some can carry 400,000 volts, does anyone know the sort of distances of clear space there should be.
