  1. I think it needs to be a couple of feet off the floor at the most all round, the issue with the front is the top corners of the cab windscreen being sharp !!! need to make a hoop like the cargo hoops but this one needs fixing to the front bumper tall enough so the cover coming forward off the rear canvas can miss the cab. Plane straight sheet length of truck to go from floor one side up over the roof and down to floor the otherside then just the ends left to do, get two separate end panels and stich them to the main sheet like a 12x12 tent ?? have reinforced eyelits all along the bottom edges so these can be tied down to the wheels ect.
  2. Any thoughts on weather we are having a star or fairy on the top of the tree, might have a sugestion. :cool2:
  3. Get some pictures of the sort of material they might use and some other dimentions ect shape of the sort of cover you are wanting and a price might be interested if they are good a strong !!!!!!
  4. Is this a cover up job for the winter if so you might consider removing the good canvas and storing indoors, once it is covered in plastic sheeting it can sweat and get mould on it so if you have new or good condition canvas might be the best bet to remove. Just got a e mail from machine mart and in there are these instant garages !!!!! May be the next step up from a blue sheet ? http://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/product/details/clarke-cig1220-heavy-duty-instant-garage?da=1&TC=RV-140611220
  5. Do you have any idea why the drawbar is excluded in the trailer length ? Does the overall train length include the drawbar ? So you have a tow vehicle 6 mtrs long and a 1mtr drawbar on the trailer and then trailer is 12 mtrs long, would the train length be 18 or 19 mtrs ?
  6. So if not allowed to use an overrun braking system, that would only leave air brakes, what other options are there ? Would you be able to clarify the new overall max width is now 2.55 mtrs and max length excluding drawbar is 7 mtrs, is there any limitations on these sizes if towing by different vehicles excluding the obvious weight implications, so say you have a 90 defender Land Rover caperble of towing 3500Kgs would the above sizes be able to be towed by this vehicle.
  7. Thanks for that found my book about the CCKW's now but got no info on the DUKW's.
  8. Awfull mud cant believe those middle and back tyres have tread on them they look bald in some of the pics. Still a nice day for getting stuck.....:cool2:
  9. Hi Mike, are you refering to the tyres being near impossible to get ? If so you mean that people have converted 20" combat wheels to fit the 18" centres of the original wheels ? What are the differences in diameters. 11.00 x 18 bar grip overall tyre diameter ? 9.00 x 20 bar grip overall tyre diameter ?
  10. Oh...... Do you know the diammeter of an 11.00 x 18 tyre then. Did the bolster trucks run 11.00 x 18 too or were they 9.00 x 20.
  11. Can anyone give me weights unladen for a CCKW353 with winch, and also the weight of a DUKW does the DUKW have the same weight carrying capacity as a CCKW ? The DUKW's run on 9.00 x 20 tyres ? are there any other differences in the drive train between the DUKW's and CCKW's if not does the larger tyre size mean it is faster on road ?
  12. No pole for the dancing girls :undecided:
  13. Looked in to the hose connections a little more and think we have got an idea of what they are for. See pics below also see the gearbox plate detailing the gear ratios ect.
  14. Well we had a good morning, got some batteries and some diesel, bled the fuel system. We also screwed an oil pressure gauge in place of the broken light switch, sorted out the wiring for the starter and solenoid also checked the stop solenoid was working, that was all ok so went for a start. First we tried the starter briefly to see if the engine would turn over, ok. Then we connected the stop solenoid and cranked again had a bit of cough and splutter, ok. So this time it was a try till it started, with a couple of revolutions it picked up and was running without any throttle, good oil pressure too at tick over the gauge was giving a steady 45 psi, good. How can I find out the gear ratios for the gearbox which is fitted to it ?
  15. I think the engine is about 1994 ish, out of a DAF tipper, have not got a vehicle in mind yet :cool2:
  16. Got some pics of some parts on a Cummins engine ( 6BT ) and wondered if anyone out there could identify what they are. What is this water temp sender for ? front of engine by thermostat. Two black steel water pipes run from either side of the thermostat towards the back of the engine, are they cab heater ? What do the numbers on this engine plate mean, looks like bottom row is 108Kw at 2600 RPM Air compressor, air in on the right tube and out on the left tube with a pressure relief valve sticking up, is this correct, what is the little black plastic tube for at top of compressor head ? What is this temp sender at the back of the cylinder head, only one connection on it ? Injector pump (CAV) What is the rubber covered unit only 1 cable in it? I think its the stop solenoid? is it powered for engine to run, and remove supply to stop engine ? What is the small arm with a left bend in it and a dowel sticking up at the end just right of the main throttle leaver ? What is this vent for on the side of the crankcase, nearside just behind the air compressor/power steering pump? There is also a vent from the side cover panel for the push rods ?
  17. Started on my Land Rover tonight, getting the rear door gap width correct for a rear opening door. To achieve this I have had to remove the rear floor and also the rear floor cross supports, to be able to move the body tub sides in and out. The question is what is the correct way of refixing the cross supports to the lips on the body sides (they were bolted with dome head bolts) and then the floor was riveted on top ? Do the alloy front to back supports under the floor panel rivet to the floor cross supports too ?
  18. On the Olympic theam, how many of the gold post boxes can we get pics of on here, The post office are painting post boxes in the uk where the gold medalists winners live. Get spotting and posting .... pardon the pun
  19. Yep you can see some of it there still now.
  20. Yup ok. So to get the 107 removed you would need to take a full C1+E test just to increase the GTW by 3750Kg's although you would still only be able to drive upto a 7500Kg vehicle without a trailer ? Yes I think I see what you mean. :nut: So is this right to current licences: B are vehicles upto 3500Kg C1 are vehicles between 3500Kg and 7500Kg C are vehicles over 7500Kg but upto what ? C1+E with code 107 vehicles upto 7500Kg towing upto 8250Kg GTW. Without code 107 towing upto 12000Kg GTW C+E are vehicles over 7500Kg and towing with a GTW over 12000Kg but up to what ?
  21. I have come across some reference recently to removing the clause 107 on the old type driving licence's thus increasing the limit to 12000Kg by taking a test, does any one know any more about this ??
  22. Tyre changing events. say start with a GMC and move up to Diamond T then say at the top weight a Pacific tractor unit :wow:
  23. Well maybe as this forum is a VERY active forum we could have a stolen thread which can only be added to by mods once the victim has given the correct details ect :cool2:
  24. I am a little confused here, what is the issue. Is it that the vehicle is insured as an ex military where it was not or the mods carried out on it are not declared. Does it make any difference to the insurance company weather it was a military vehicle or not ?
