  1. It was a fast taxi run, as performed many times in the past by a variety of cold war jets. This time, the aircraft lifted and due to some cockpit resource management issues, it became fully airbourne. The commander handled the situation well and put the aircraft back down. There was no plummeting involved, no schools were narrowly avoided and few puppies were harmed! There are several videos of it on youtube.
  2. It was a Victor not a Vulcan and it has been the subject of some very poor tabloid news of late.....
  3. So probably ex-Israeli or ex-Argentinian..... Again it would depend on the base model and how easy it would be to restore back to original but I would imagine something in the region of £100,000 to £150,000. I don't personally feel that to be a 'good' price as it's a huge some of money but that is what they are going for.
  4. That's a bit like saying how much for a jeep.... It depends on model, condition and location but they do go for quite a bit now. Anything from £30,000 for a wreck to £200,000 for a minter would cover most options at the moment.
  5. Hi Michael, be careful with the SUMB, despite what appears on the paperwork, I don't believe they went into production untill about 1963....
  6. A bit like all the 1939 GMCs that were about in the mid 1980s..... Harder to do now though as the DVLA insist on a 'proper' dating certificate so as to shift the blame on to a third party if a date of manufacture turns out to be fraudulant.
  7. I was intending to go having been disappointed at the cancelation of last years show but..... I had to clear some rubbish in my field. I did use my 1939 Cat D4 though so not all bad! By the look of it, the Victory Show is primarily a reenactment type event, is that correct?
  8. If it's an aircraft tug, presumably they are FOD boxes?
  9. 75mm pack howitzer OT90 FV432 M5 High speed tractor towing a 4.5" gun (maybe a 5.5") CVRT of some flavour! FV434 CVRW Fox Hope this helps, Adrian
  10. Hmm.... Late welded hull Cromwell had the same 4" of frontal armour as Tiger 1, which also had a vertical front plate. No 6 pdr Cromwells were fielded in battle, all having 75mm but that was only to give it a good HE capacity, the 6 pdr having (with APDS) excellent armour penetration capability second only to 17 pdr.
  11. Passing your car test in 1977 would not have given you an H entitlement. If it was on your licence, it must have been a mistake!
  12. I don't think the Puritans were there either but the purists might have a moan.....:-D
  13. £15.00! Right, I'm not going! Only kidding!:-D With facilities and food provided it sounds a bargain. I look forward to more details as they appear.
  14. Easy to confuse the two Jack. I myself got to 2500 feet once before I realised I was on the lawnmower.....
  15. Welcome to the mad house! Y'all come back now.
  16. Nice pics Jack! 30 minutes later I was back on the ground at the airfield..... I liked the show, it did feel like the shows of old and it was nice to see everything in an easy stroll. Not much to buy in the stalls though, very little in the way of vehicle bits! Enjoyed our chat Jack, looking forward to more details for A&E soon!
  17. Yep, that's the deep one. Do you need another?
  18. The rim widths are the same and either can be fitted with 8.25 or 9.00 tyres. Thet are about 6" between the bead flanges and about 8" over the flanges. The deep offset is about 9 7/8" overall height with no tyre and the shallow offset about 9 3/8". All dimensions approx!
  19. There are two tyre sizes as abn said. International halftracks also use 9.00-20. There is however, two different rim offsets. The dome is the same in both cases but is welded into the rim at different heights. It's not much, about an inch but you cannot fit the deeper rim on some vehicles front axles due to it fouling the steering parts. Scout cars can accept either on front or rear and it's not uncommon to find a mixture on vehicles.
