There is a separate Abbot repair manual but it's the same as the 432s, for which there are a plentiful supply of manuals. This one should do you: http://www.ekmpowershop5.com/ekmps/shops/greenmachines/fv432carrier-personnel-full-tracked-mk1112-and-21-technical-handbookunit-repairs-1311-p.asp

You can put non-ANR headsets on ANR boxes but not the other way round because the ANR headsets need 24V to function and that is only provided by the ANR (yellow) boxes. The pressels are different too because the green pressels have an extra wire to pass the 24V from the box to the headset.

Absolutely correct - I hadn't spotted that! "Air pressure in the chamber may be read on a gauge located on the left hand turret sideplate when the valve is opened".
Andy
I assume it's a gearbox/torque converter overheating issue. I can't see that 50 feet could cause any problems, but hopefully Sharky will give us the benefit of experience!
Andy
Not an awful lot there really, I'm afraid. As the sole representative of tracked armour, Chas is doing a sterling job showing kiddies round the FV439. I hope there's still some of it left at the end! :-)
Andy
Don't worry - it just makes me feel old! :-(
Incidentally, does anyone know when the flotation equipment was removed from the FV430s? It seems to have been under instruction E109 Misc 43, but I can't find a date for it. Best guess is 1980 or thereabouts.

You might also like to look at Holland 1 at the Submarine Museum in Gosport, and to a lesser extent the SS Great Britain. Corrosion issues are pretty well understood these days, as is the treatment, but it isn't cheap!

As Chris says, it's a Mk 2/1, albeit fitted with flotation gear. The Mk 2/1 was certainly around in 1967 when we withdrew from Aden. What interests me are the side track guards which seem to have gradually disappeared over time. I'm assuming they were originally fitted to help with propulsion when swimming.
Andy
There's another stirrup-like variant that hangs down over the top of the tracks but I don't see that it's any advantage over just stepping on the hubs and tracks themselves.
Andy
Ah - that may be because mine only goes up to Supplement 10. Interesting ...
A shame the REME museum didn't pick that one up from Withams at the time.
Andy
I've only ever seen black & white photos of them, so I don't think they were around for long. There's some more information on the REME museum website here: http://www.rememuseum.org.uk/collections_view.aspx?id=36
