  1. I am finding slow as well. First login attempt came up with Internet Explore error page and reported a "database error contact administrator" Mike
  2. OK based on the K plate I am assuming it is registered as 71/72 and tax exempt so would guess it was once a Beetle and thus a kit car. But that is just my feelings However somebody has invested in it., especially the motor. The following being mods to a 72 engine.Ftom known engine mods I suspect that a few other bits may have been done aswell, but the motor would need polling to find out. Would leave well alone if running. FYI visible mods are Dry sump Relocated air filter and replaced fan fousing. Carb, distributer. alternator and "power" pully. The "poer2 pully is the one on the end of the crank that drives the alternator and cooling fan, it is smaller than standard and as such you get less revolutions on the alternator/fam. so less load on motor. Is suposed to give a slight power increase. But has the effect of reducing electrical power (probably not an issue) and also cooling, was only an issue when stationary though, so be careful on the M25. Mike
  3. Clive is normally very good and accurate but I am not so sure in this case. It does sound very sensible and good advice but I have done a quick google and they do not recommend increasing the heat. Apparently increased heat can speed up the growth of mold, http://www.nedcc.org/resources/leaflets/3Emergency_Management/08SalvageMoldyBooks.php http://www.dartmouth.edu/~library/preservation/faq.html http://www2.lib.udel.edu/Preservation/mold.htm http://blog.lib.uiowa.edu/preservation/2009/03/05/cleaning-moldy-books-and-magazines/ They all seem to recommend sinilar thinks and mention the dreade words "Health and Safety"Mind you the internet is not always correct:D Mike
  4. Welcome in, Sometimes a hammer is very useful when frustrated by a computer. Failing that this is known to help. :computerrage: Mike
  5. Going by that and the frontal picture it would appear that it is most likly stock. A lightvehicle rides a bit higher on torsion bars. Drums on front? Disc conversion relatively easy using stok part Notice it is running a dry sump system. What is the carb? Is it a vacuum distruibuter? Mike
  6. I was thinking more of the wheel diameter and tire size. Many fitted smaller diameter wheels, with big tyres, to maintain the rolling diameter, which can make the shock towers look higher. Measuring shock length and comparing to stock is also no good. Being torsion bars all you need to do is remove the trail arms and refit a spline or 2 further round. Fronts OK rears harder to raise to to stop, but have seen these ground off. Also used to lower. One or so splines was Ok but any more made hanling interesting. Mike
  7. Totally agree with this,. How kind of your wife to pay. Good luck and hope it works out as you are hoping. Look forward to seeing the finished article. Mike
  8. Average speed was around 350mph. Basically meant you only really had one chance at it. Remember iy was probably only 10-15mph quicker. You cover a larger distance at those speeds. A 1 mile gap would take about 6 minutes to close, but you have covered 35 miles doing it. Dy all accounts the idea was not to touch wings but use the airflow over your wing to lift the Z1 wing and throw its gyro stabiliser out of whack . Shooting them was an option but dangerous as the explosion could take the interceptor out.. Tempests, Mosquitos, Griffon engined Spitfires and Mustangs were used as interceptors. Not forgetting they also fave it a go with the early Meteor. Mike
  9. If it is a 1600 it will be twin port. Basicaly it means there are two inlet pots on heads. The cross tube on the manifold will have a seperate end which has 2 routes through. As per these Across 2 - 4 down http://jonnys-speedandcustom.co.uk/#/used-vw-parts/4541339140 VM engines are very hard to determine exactly what you have as bits are interchangeable. We once acquired a running motor from a Type 2 (Van) as spoares, PO reported it ran lumpy. We stripped it and it was a very rare 1450cc. 2 1300 pots and 2 1600 ones it ran. My 1600 ran with a snapped crank. What size wheels and tyres are fitted. Extended towers will normally be above the tyre, but depends what you have fitted. Mike
  10. You are a bit out of date is it not supposed to be "Go to the naughty step" Once he has finished rebuilding the howitzer in the dining room/kitchen/living room/bathroom, the bath is a good place for soaking large parts, smaller parts parts can go in the dishwasher. the house will need redecorating agaim. So why do it twice? Mike PS: It is my mothers fault she let us rebuild carbs on the kitchen table and heat chain grease on the cooker. Perfectly OK as long as you remember not to do the sausages and bacon in it.
  11. OK give you that one, I was thinking along the lines of the racing versions and not the mil ones. Having trawled the net cannot find anything similar, going by the rear framing around engine to roll bar. The diagonals all seem to be straight at top. Whatever it is it looks fum. Is the motor a 1600 twinport? Is there extended shok towers on the front torsion bar axle? The Fugitive was basically a VW Beetle (Type 1) based kit car so you ended up with whatever engine you had/fancied. Seen them with anytheing from 1200 upwards. Mike
  12. It is not a UVA Fugitive or the original Chenworth, the basis of the Fugitive. It appears to short/high for one of these. There were numerous alternatives though The best Fugitive was probably the low one with the mid mounted Rover V8. Mike
  13. Looks like news of this has leaked out and the celebrations have started
  14. You may be right about drop outs but all you can do is take it that you have done something right and created something that everybody wants to be involved in. Not only that once the publicity machine gets rolling you may have created a monster. You have however left me with a dilema. This is now sounding as attractive as 16 Spitfires in flight The 27th June is our 30th wedding anniversary and her who must be obeyed:D wants to go away for it. She fancies somewhere which involves a place beginning with D and involves grizzlies. Sadly the D does not stand for Dorset and the Grizzly is related to the one below. Oh well may have to suffer the chance of taking picture like this one instead. Yes I was forcsed to suffer a Churchill back in 2004 Anyway good luck and MAY THE ARMOUR BE WITH YOU Mike
  15. Blimey. The list is getting very impressive. Are you now aiming for the largest post war armoured convoy? Mike
  16. You got some good pics there. I do like Old Warden especially for photography. Unlike so many places you are not shooting into the sun, in fact it tends to reflect of the aircraft when they are banked towards the crowd. Not to forget that the display line is probably one of the closest. Mind you this is annoying when you want to get the whole of the Lanc or B17 in and the short end of your lens is to long. Don't really count the Avro as Edwardian as it was built in the 60's (original design) and IIRC has a slightly more powerful motor. But they are good to see. Even more amazing when you get to see the Boxkite parked next to a Spitfire and think that there was only 30 years between them. Mike
  17. Welcome in. Ownership optional. As Big Ray says there are plenty of people/owners out there who would welcome help from an enthusiastic person. Be careful about lifts you may find you need to contribute to the pushing:D In which case a Jeep is better than a Sherman. Mike
  18. A couple of post back in the You Tube clip I suspect. Mike
  19. I think that the Hendon one is the only complete airframe left. Mike
  20. Surely if you had a 432 you would not need the topper it is a simple equatin. 432 + field = no grass + :D:D Mike
  21. Plenty of useful suggestions there. I do like old tractors. My uncle has a few but they are mainly "projects" and will probably remain that way for years to come. You could do an update on this. The joys of a PTO shaft why did they stop them As somebody mentioned a trailed gang mower is always an option with a Landy at hand. Although they tend to be better on shorter "level" grass. Mike
  22. Just heard on the news of the sad loss of A P51 air racer at Reno. Additionally sad due to the loss of lives. My condolences to anybody effected http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-14957437 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HB2cBuV1YGE Mike
  23. Red Scammell Pioneer/Explorer? towing living van heading east on A41 approaching M25 at Watford Mike
  24. The power steering on Astra is electric hydraulic pump. I would check earths, alternator and battery condition. If alternator is not charging it will run off battery. A battery should recover some charge when left. Clicking noise sounds like mine when battery failed. My 2000 model has a habit of misbehaving when battery charge is low. Mike
