2. I was working at North Sea ferries one Sunday Morn havinging being called in to recover an over turned trailer on board the ship. There was 50 odd of these things on the main deck all unaccompanied to be driven of before i could get at trailor. I gave hand driving them on to Quay. To this day still have straight aluminium tow bar that fell of the back of one of them . was told at time they were going to leverslys
3. definitly martian gear. Noticed a couple of pionts about vidieo wrecker has rear spade down buts its not being worked hence vehicle is relying on brakes to hold it therefore vehicle being pulled must have been MT . Also by noise from engine and speed of winch it has not had original Martian hydraulic pump fitted. Original martian pump worked at 42 gallons a minute modern ones 15 gallons Hence speed of winch. If Mt doubt that snatch block was needed
4. Finally made a bit of progress today not on rear legs though but managed to find some box section to make a boom out of will put some updated pics on tomorrow if all goes to plan
5. pallet line and pallet force both charge around the same per pallet and both offer fantastic service at what i think is very reasonale price

8. I am not an anachist but this is a true story that makes me dispair. One of or depots which recovered vehicles on behalf of the police. Recovered a vehicle with 3/4 tons of copper cable in it for forensic enquireys. It was inspected for finger prints DNA etc. The guy who was caught driving the vehicle an Audi 80 was pulled up because it it was on its arse he was identifyed by later by cctv stealing it from a raliway compond he was arrested and charge with theft of the cable. When the vehicle was released from police custody we placed it in our compound. A day later somebody did a ramraid on the security fencing with a stolen jcb and took the car. We were alerted and informed the police and issued with a crime number we insisted and four more calls later after telling them it was being held for evidence at crown court they finally took us seriously. The next day the same driver was caught driving in the same vehicle with no cable . We got a bolloking for losing the vehicle and the case against the driver was dropped. We are currently fighting civil litigation against the driver of the vehicle for loss of £3600 of cable while in our custody
9. Hi welcome to the forum Cant help you with your query but feel sure there are plenty of experts on here who will. I have a question for you how did it end up right over there. Also green with envy not with the machine you have but the beautiful area you live in spent a couple of weeks around there Stunning. That smoked Sockeye in packets ate it like bars of chocolate dribble dribble
10. This wrecker to mind is one of the bonniest lookin trucks ever built and as a versatile medium all rounder it has to be the best. I belive it was the sucsessor to the ones used by the BOAR. I have seen some pictures on here of some in a scrapyard somewhere anybody piont me to the right place
11. hi dont know what type of winch you have electric or hydaulic but if possible get your self a remote control for it. makes every job so much easier one man job. Line up truck winch and watch make any steering adjustments. If electric easy to fit if hydraulic still easy if its fitted right valve block. Also not trying to teach how to suck eggs but which ever way round you decide to load hang on to middle axle with winch six wheelers seem to take less effort from winch this way. Plus you dont get hook bound on winch before fully on
12. if there is still outstanding moneys owing they went to Russia. True answer dont know but they looked a nice truck all those bonneted trucks of that ilk looked and sat right and looked like business machines.
13. quick pic showing project i started a long time ago this was held up due to lack of finance but it is finally back on track. It went out out prior to christmas on about 12 jobs but only in a role as dead man giving extra wieght on heavy winch jobs. today have finally managed to get all hydralics up and running will in near future get rear stiff legs up and working so should not belong before we start fitting body work. and painting. Main winch has been tried and will winch 10 ton truck plus 6 ton forklift with brakes locked at 750 psi showing on gauge relief valve so should be a winching monster when get rear spades up and working
14. After war broke out in Europe Hug built eight of the Model 50-6 cargo trucks, 6x6 7Y2-tonners powered by Hercules engines and generally resembling the Marmon-Herringtons of the period. These went overseas under Lend-Lease. After 1939 the number of giant truck models was reduced, and Hug built a series of highway trucks looking identical to the 1941 round-nosed Reos since they bought sheet metal from Reo. Most of these were sold to the Pet Milk Co which, over many years, had bought a total of 177 trucks from Hug. The last Hug truck left the factory on June 10th 1942, ending a 20-year production run of 4,014 units, including about 50 trailers. Hugs were widely distributed, being sold in 41 states and 7 foreign countries including Mexico and South America. Lifted from coachbuild.com Picture of wrecker shows it was fitted with early Garwood crane with manual Luffing and slewing
15. Unbelievable anyone would fit a driven front axle but leave transfer box out so only 4X2 what a strange old world we live in
16. Thanks NOS Antar mike been annoying me for years but never being able to ask anyone before
17. One other vehicle i am thinking off is the bonneted scania what ever its fifth wheel must have been moumted high up
18. was any of the bonneted AWDs on trials around this time? Some one must have an idea
19. One of the Ships was MV Norland belonginnging to North sea Ferries. The POWs were transported back on the main cardeck. They were fed and washed on upper decks. When the first batch were summuned up they refused a few questions and it was found that they believed they were to be throw overboard. I did a lot of work on North Sea Ferries and got to know some of the crew who travelled to the Falklands with her
20. heres one thats puzzling me. I have a brouchure for EKA wreckers in PDF format in one picture it shows a Scammell EKA working for British army. what i cant work out is what its winching. What springs to my mind is leyland Martian what else could it be???
21. yes it is a golden rule dont step over or work round winch ropes under tension. To be fair to them they wont be under that much load. at a guess that truck would have slide back even with trail spades down at around about 18 tons so line tension would have been max 4.5 tons with the way its rigged. Bit curious why so many snatch blocks with that winch one block would have way overloaded holding power of vehicle
22. Then we will have a plague of of frog and locusts famine will follow until late sept followng year first thursday after this it will brighten up out look for rest of of week generaly sunny except for humberside where its going to pee down as normal
23. your reply has had me looking a bit further at pic truck at right has bar grips on it may be it has been in service a while and had new tyres fitted. One on left has directional (tractor tyres fitted) so could be one on left is newer vehicle. hence one on left got newer version of garwood crane. Also i think cab shape is different could it be one on right is kenworth built version of wrecker??
24. I go with your knowledge just done a search for forage cap got this picture says american and british officers wearing forage hats. Didnt know british milatry issued with them.
25. One of the best photos i have seen on this sight. I have a couple of questions to ask about the picture are both WLF the same model or is the one on the left the all power operated eg luffing and slewing i can see the one right is manual. reason i ask is the main winch on the right looks much bigger. one other question is it me or is the soldier on the extreme left an American his hat looks like American issue. Why do i think this is a good snap because i think it captures the atmosphere on a tough recovery job pefectly. The guys are grafting hard but coming to realise they arnt winning some back up has arrived and though tired they going to get the job done.
