  1. just a quick one some of those sort you have to screw pump plunger back down after priming ???. Like i say not a lot of anything to go wrong with them.
  2. any Daf agent will supply or at least our local one can The engine sounds exotic being called a Rolls Royce but was built by Perkins so look at other truck makers who fitted engine under Perkins name. Think it was called Eagle fitted in ERF now MAN they can still locate parts. Plus get someone to have a look at it apart from diaphragm not a lot can go wrong with it if that is OK I would go for sucking air only had the one DROPS it sucked air at bulk head union through chassis near tank proper pain by passed it in the end
  3. Quite by chance after I wrote post I went to local factors in Goole for some pipe and olives for Foden cost £26 including vat for 30 m *12mm pipe + pack 10 olives to suit. Yes they do imperial up to 3/4
  4. If the steel pipes have olives fitted and not flared ends as far as i am aware it is perfectly acceptable to replace with nylon pipe and olives saving a lot of grief bending shaping steel replacements although i depends on how much of a purist you are. Just clean up the original nuts and use. One exception the first steel pipe after the compressor should be retained as it gets very hot. Nylon pipes and olives very easy to obtain from local HGV motor factors.
  5. Bit of an update. Foden had its first job last Thursday and all looking good. Called out to a crane wt 32 tons O/S wheels bogged in a recently filled in drain. laying at about 35 degrees whole underbelly bottomed out. Backed up fairly close and lifted rear end with crane well elevated hung main winch on and slewed and lifted rear of crane out of drain. Pulled forward re rigged and winched whole crane on to hard standing. whole job start to finish less than an hour. Foden made it it look so simple and undramatic it was a bit of a let down. But it showed what a fantastic piece of kit it is. Sorry no pics as yet but i know some were taken and will post if i get them, Fresh encouragement to get old lady finished and working properly
  6. Hi had a reply from my Mate The truck operated in Louisiana and was well known. It was indeed a modified 969 with Holmes W45 wrecking Gear. But putting those big wheels on has made it look completely different
  7. is the gearbox being chanced because it's U/S or just because the gearbox is out to do clutch. Reason I ask is I don't see any reason to change for performance reasons as I believe both are direct drive in top gear. Plus best of luck trying to fit that winch in any form on a transporter bed.
  8. just received a copy off same supplier what you want CD or printed.
  9. I remember years ago a typical piece of red tape took Leyland Martian for MOT got advisory on windscreen wiper blades As it had lift up windscreen so didn't even have to have wipers . Got fail on no wind screen washers even though could drive about with windscreen open same time it was a fail for having no low air pressure warning buzzer until some one pointed out profoundly deaf could drive. So that don,t mean a fail any more Also i don,t know how how modern ex mod vehicles pass the MOT in civilian stations when fitted with the emergency brake release switch fitted which allow you to drive away with no brakes what,s so ever
  10. Go to programs Press accessories Press system tools Press system restore Follow instructions Pick a date in the past before problems started saves any data in there. Has worked for me twice but i am no computer expert
  11. Think i would go for dribbling injector before i started think rings. Out of curiosity why did you take heads of was it making noises or running rough ?.
  12. Hi thanks for getting back. The winch set up i have got my head round. Re the two systems that seem very slow. The original bottom foot Extend / Retract ram was very small in diameter may be 3" across the replacement foot we make is the ram is nearer 6" hence the spool lever is operated it is very slow as the flow of oil to it is restricted somewhere. The original fold bottom foot ram was even smaller and i am trying to use this to power the up down rams for the boom Both 5" across. I have confirmed today that this is a painfully slow also. i have also noticed the spool for the winch slow speed and the spool for rear boogie blocking system (which has small diameter rams) are all built into the same bank of four valves e.g those nearest the drivers side. Is there anyway of increasing flow of oil to this bank of valves.
  13. i am all for preservation and correctness but as you correctly state there are many museum examples about. So go for usability and have full enjoyment of trouble free motoring after all 99.9% of the people who you come across wont know the difference and i doubt any one on here would from looking at a photo with out having read this blog.I for one am enjoying watching its progress and the adaptations you are making to it. The end of day if it gives you satisfaction its worth more to you than a mint restored example to you and would be probably be the same for a lot of other people. Thought A lot of purists drool and go weak Kneed at pictures of Swimmenwagans and tiger tanks and start asking how much and when could they have one. Knowing full well they were knocked up in the last few months out of steel less than a year old with parts off second hand vehicles that have no relationship to the originals the whole hobby is about enjoying what you have
  14. No problem . Just noticed something else today there are two winch spools for the main recovery winch the one nearest the drivers side eg the first one on the bank of 4 has no solenoid associated to it but it is directly connected to these four lockwired valves i mentioned the second one on the bank of 8 valves has a solenoid piped to it. pulling the first spool valve lever the winch crawls around pull the other one it spins fairly fast. is the winch two speed and kicks down at a preset load ??. the hydraulic system seems to get more complicated the more i look at it
  15. Managed to get a little done to Foden over the Xmas New year break. Hopefully by weekend underlift will be going up and down under its own steam (ops hydraulic pressure) with new radio remote wired in. But i am after a little info when i fitted extended bottom foot i found it extended retracted very slowly i feel i am going to have same problems with the up down rams for under lift. Is there any adjustment for speed of functions of individual spools on hydraulic valve block. On the back of the big main valve block there is a smaller block of four sections each piped in to various places with four adjusting screws that are lockwired could these control flow/speed to individual spools here's hoping i can jog Richard Farrants memory once more. put this on again as it got left on last page
  16. Yes we warmed it up nobody fancied it gave it to the two heads of security we have one of them walked off in disgust

  18. Thats a new one on me the gear on the back is Holmes 45 as fitted to 969 T plus civilian conversion of secondary crane a Garwood winch the cab bonnet and front wings look like diamond T 969 it has obviously been fitted with larger tyres than standard. Even so the guys stood in the shot must have been vertically challenged. If you give me the ok i can send a copy of photo to a mate in the US who i feel sure could give me a lot of info on this vehicle
  19. bottom line is you get what some one will pay if it scrap you get that price offered if its a minter you get top price if its yours you make the choice to sell or keep. You can discuss for ever and a day things will sell for what they are worth or what seller will take full stop. No way can you link what last one sold for to the one begin sold now it will make what seller accepts
  20. to all concerned Health Wealth and most of all Happiness
  21. hi welcome to the forum you will get a lot of advice here. quick question why you thinking of fitting different diffs?? Standard box and diffs will give more speed than brakes can cope with even with diesel fitted
  22. was hoping to get reme recovery manual off e bay but got out bid WHY
  23. Also as with most things recovery if you have a good winch available apply it as soon you get chance then do any other jobs you have to do long sustained constant pull is worth a lot of yucking and riving and broken gear
  24. cosrec
