  1. i have to say that all of the above work has been carried out by bob grundy and his team at british military vehicles and i couldn't be happier with what he's done so far, not just the quality but the speed and efficiency and all at a very fair price, thanks bob rick
  2. the turret ring shown is from the centaur and was in remarkably good condition considering it had been on salisbury plain for 40+ years. once the ring is fitted the transformation from charioteer to cromwell is complete, although there are also one or two other bits to put back on
  3. thanks pierre your website has been an inspiration to me and many others, keep up the good work. here are some more pics for you.
  4. andy i thought you got everything sorted on saturday, was there something else that you found !!! i know you've had trouble with a loose nut on the steering wheel, was that the problem :-D rick
  5. good to se another armour lover on the site. rick
  6. sorry to hear about the weapons, it's a real shame when something like that happens as it can ruin an otherwise great event, especially when those that got shafted were the ones that went to the trouble to organise the event in the first place. rick
  7. i went on sunday with my little lad jack, and eventually managed to park in town then walked down to the playing fields where it was held last year but no vehicles were there (must have been on the convoy) so i asked around and was told it was at the other end of town in the school so walked back through town and paid my £2 entry to find a few stalls and a handful of jeeps which was disappointing so i walked back down to the playing fields to find about 6 vehicles which had returned from the convoy but before i could walk over stormin called to meet up to collect some kit i'd arranged to buy (cheers norman) so it was back to town and in the van and off and that was that, hope it pans out better next year rick
  8. i'd love to help you out john but i don't know what i can do for you but if you need anything sorting around manchester way just give me a shout. all the best rick
  9. fantastic job you're doing on the humber, can you get a picture of the speedo you need and i'll keep my eye open for you. all the best rick
  10. if memory serves me right they run in oil, check your front axle filler level plug on the diff housing, oil should be level with the plug hole if it isn't both bearings could be knackered, before you condemn them do a visual inspection to see if they are blued or the metal has dragged if not then they'll be ok to put back in. remember it's an rb not a ferrari so top up and motor on rick
  11. i'll put the thread gauge on one when i get back but do me a favour drop me a pm if you've not heard from me on sunday as my memory is crap and i'll have forgotten about it. rick
  12. free fuel, you lucky buggar !!! great choice of vehicle you've made, in my opinion the most fun for your money of any tracked vehicle on the market. enjoy rick
  13. that's a nice job you've done on those wheels. i'm on holiday until the weekend so i can't check my carrier wheels to confirm the thread but if you still need the sizes let me know and i'll get them for you on sunday. rick
  14. thanks simon some great pics there. cheers rick
  15. andy sounds good to me, will i have use of the armoured heritage group towing vehicle (your rb44) rick
  16. i'm on a last minute holiday in devon so couldn't turn out with the carrier but i'm sure i'll be able to make it next year, looks like i missed a great show rick
  17. corten steel is often used for boat building so although it's a buggar to weld you know it won't rot the same as mild. good luck with the resto. rick
  18. mate of mines got 2 turretless hulls in oz but the shipping is a real killer at £9k each  the matilda's a nice tank but i'd rather have a valentine, i managed to cadge a drive of john pearsons down at beltring and it was one of the easiest bits of armour i've ever driven, not the best driving position though and the vision is pants but nice all the same. a valentine is my next acquisition rick
  19. good for you ray, go for it. those matilda turrets are like rocking horse sh1t. i don't know why but the turrets are always the hardest part to find of any ww2 tank. wish i could come and give you a lift but i doubt the other half would let me fly to oz , anyway good luck with your treasure hunt :cool2: rick
  20. hey man you can't save 'em all but at £6k that was a lot of tank for the money  at least you've saved one, the arrvs and other engineering variants aren't as sexy as gun tanks so they are normally the first to get the chop. it's a shame but that's just the way it is.
  21. you will become a legend amongst reccy mechs !!! looks to be a real beast and a worthwhile restoration, if you've been looking for a while i'm surprised you didn't go for david smales arrv that was on milweb a while back, nobody took it on so it got cut up for spares i believe, which is bad news for arrv lovers but looking on the bright side he has plenty of spares still for sale so it could be a good source for you should the need arise. he still has some advertised on milweb http://www.milweb.net/webverts/56407/ looking forward to seeing it at beltring next year rick
  22. thanks for the tow big al, stalling with a flat battery at the entrance to the bridge was not making us any new freinds, your timing was impeccable. we got it jump started easily enough with andy's rb 44 so no great drama's. see you next year (i'll have the tow rope ready again) cheers rick ps. mark i have no idea what the little tracked vehicle was but it looked like fun to drive
