1. Some bargains can be found out this way but you always have to be wary When I see original, I get suspicious straight away.
2. I see this guy has a few helmets on his site but was curious what the experts think of this German one?? http://www.mudah.my/Topi+besi+Jerman+original-9880498.htm ahh toss it....... what about these also :-D (may be useful for collecting or a laugh) http://www.mudah.my/WW2+US+45+Cal+Black+Leather+Holster-9710069.htm US 45 Holster http://www.mudah.my/WW2+german+utility+pouch+w+belt+loop+mauser+Ori-9883290.htm WW2 german utility pouch w belt loop mauser http://www.mudah.my/WWII+British+helmet+desert+tan+with+net+ORIGINAL-9880499.htm WWII British helmet desert tan with net http://www.mudah.my/Topi+besi+Rusia+Original-9880495.htm Russian Helmet
3. Well not sure what qualifies as a war movie as I see Captain America: The First Avenger (2011) is on this list. I went and saw this movie last weekend, as I was bored. If we list bad things in war movies this one has every single one of them. There should be a war movies for children section. Loads of 432's in WW2 :yawn: It was filmed in the UK so I guess that explains the 432's. What about the occult blue energy firing weapon 4x4 amoured vehicles, anyone know what they were made from?
4. I am hoping he buys that DD for sale soon http://www.museumstuff.com/learn/topics/DD_Sherman::sub::Surviving_DD_Tanks It's a steal at $595000 http://www.armyjeeps.net/armor1.htm http://www.armyjeeps.net/swimtank/1943_sherman_m4.htm
5. This one been in here http://www.aaftankmuseum.com/Archive11M4A3E8.htm
6. Going to have to post piccies soon. I like Matilda's
7. It's all a bit of give and take and would be impossible to get a perfect film. Old Films (good points) - Other countries shown, not just America. Full size mock up models, blown up. Some believable actors. More patriotic films as tributes. Old Films (bad points) - Crispy clean clothes, spottlessly clean actors. Bullets that always richocet with the same noise. Never ending magazines and huge petrol fire explosions. Grenades that blow up everything. Facts changed for ease of making the film or ratings. Bouncing polystyrene (oops rocks or concrete), Characters always disobeying orders as they know better. Walking on patrol in a group all together in a bunch. Incorrect vehicle types, uniforms and facts. New Films (good points) - Better special effects. Better sex scenes (or did I cover that in special effects :-D). New Films (bad points) - Only America shown even if they didnt do it (U52) or didn't save the day Blackhawk Down (Malaysian armour was pivital at saving them). Never ending magazines and huge petrol fire explosions. Grenades that blow up everything. If a Hollywood film 99.9% of the time it ends with everyone hugging and saying yay (really annoying once that is pointed out, and it's not just war movies. Now I watch a movie to pass the time until it get's to the yay moment). Facts changed for political correctness. Unbelievable actors, long hair, ear rings. Characters always disobeying orders as they know better. Walking on patrol in a group all together in a bunch. Incorrect vehicle types, uniforms and facts. Films made completely with a political point to be made.
8. Slow night tonight... nothing on TV. Wondering if any of this is of use http://www.county-tractors.co.uk/models.html mentions falklands but dont see no green ones it seems a few came home http://farmphoto.com/thread.aspx?mid=922640 more info... says 2 came back rest were scrapped http://www.farmphoto.com/thread.aspx?mid=339443 http://www.cheffins.co.uk/lot/-426795-vintage-0 http://www.oldpond.com/acatalog/ford_tractor_conversions.htm
9. Illegal parking is everywhere over here and this is a fantasy that I have dreamt of often when a 2 lane street is blocked by incosiderate &^%$%#^&'s http://video.news.com.au/2079568156/Crushed-by-a-tank?area=videoindex2
10. Pinzgauers. Funny to see how small a Pinz looks as by themself they look huge but beside another car the truth comes out.
11. Another Stonefield with the Goomba upgrade I was asked what it was worth today and my brain had two thoughts: 1. The vehicle is an increasingly rare piece of English (Scottish) manufacture and the diesel versions are even rarer as the Malaysian Army was the only country to buy them on a large scale. 2. The vehicle is pretty much an orphan on the collectors list and petrol examples on Ebay are lucky to get over 1000 quid. There was talk of a book being written about the Stonefield history which would be an interesting read given the decision to buy RB 44's made many people bitter and I guess more so now that the the RB 44 was not a huge success. 12. I don't want to use it as underseal. The Pinz have loads of box sections and if rust gets into them it's a pain. Some people slosh paint around in hollow sections but I don't think much of it as paint dont stick if the surface is not prepared. I was even thinking of getting a few litres of waxyoil sent over on a pallet from the UK, but remembered the chainsaw oil/grease idea. A lot of good ideas have sprung up in this thread so it has been very useful.
13. never thought of Denso.... will have to ask some sources over here
14. my old man still uses it to kill weeds
15. Nice is amazing what turns up. Rarely see any old tin over this way as all gone for scrap
16. Someone told me ages ago that spraying in chainsaw grease was a good rust inhbitor for hollow sections. I realise it would be no good on external surfaces. Curious as waxoil is not available over here that I have seen thus far. So wondering if anyone has used it
17. I thought there was a creek at W&P? just need: - a few sandbags (to make a pond) - a plane - some planks - two dukw's :cool2::-D;)
18. 1000 quid worth of tyres arriving :cry:
19. very nice to have rebuilt that, I wouldnt care if it had a Toyota Hilux engine in it, they have started with nothing and built something that looks the part. As someone said earlier it's better that it moves than is a static display Damn, PLEASE I don't want to start up the originality argument again, just full kudos to the guys that want to invest their time, money and effort into rebuilding something most people would not dream of rebuilding.
20. G'Day + Welcome Not many Pinz in here unfortunately. I would love to see an ex-MoD one kept that way with the armour kit etc Yes I have the same affliction as 7 new tyres are arriving on Friday $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
21. Yep that is the book, was a great read. I think he also had something to do with the Long Tan and messages from Vietnam books. Yes the rebuild is making a new tank that is for sure
22. I read a good Vietnam history book many years ago when the Centurians were used on a very successful bunker complex battle. The praise for the vehicles effectiveness in this role was very high as most people thought tanks in Vietnam would be ineffective. Anyway sorry to waffle on. The only complaint in the book was the cable on the infantry phone was too short so to use it you had to expose yourself, so did they ever modify them or what do you think of the cable length?
