  1. Chris, I've had a good look through the files and found some large gaps. Geoff Fletcher must have a different link as he told me that the list goes up to SA ?? AB , and these files end wi PM 80 AB. I'll contact Geoff and ask if he can send me the complete list.
  2. I was told about this by Geoff Fletcher (author of Land Rover books etc.) and I thought that it would be of great interest to HMVF members. This link www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/land_rover_para_recce_erm_list takes you to a FULL list of MoD vehicles and associated equipment e.g. trailers etc that were in use when Merlin was being used from 1985 to 2013, There are 7 large files containing the VRM, Description including original colour, date into service and in some cases where it was last used. The vehicles etc are listed in numerical/alphabetical order e.g. 01 AA 01 would run down to 01 RN 99 then 02 AA 01, this may sound complicated but you soon get the hang of it. These files cover all MoD vehicles including RAF and Royal Navy. I hope that this will be of interest as you can get a quick look at a brief history of your vehicle without a freedom of information request There are a lot of Ferrets listed in file No. 1 and even some Humber Pigs, there are some surprising vehicles on there as well, who knew that the British Army had a fleet of 36 Austin Metro vans, including 1 supplied in IRR NATO green?
  3. That one doesn't have the cover for the load bed, which has 2 zips on each side and the rear flap which can be rolled up leaving the corner sections in place. The official designation is Land Rover Wolf 130 DCPU (Dual Cab Pick Up)
  4. No is isn't, they are all NATO satin green and look very smart.
  5. We (Land Training Fleet Warminster) have just taken delivery of 10 Land Rovers very similar to the one in this thread, but with a hard top over the crew compartment and painted NATO satin green. They were converted from Pulse ambulances by DSG at Colchester, as Project HEBE, (does anyone know what HEBE means?). Apparently they are going to be used by mortar platoons. Sorry that there aren't any photos, but photography is strictly forbidden at work, which is a shame as they are a rather nice vehicle. I did ask if I could have one and was 'politely' declined, or told where to go.
  6. I've owned mine for 7 years and it has been an excellent truck, I've only had to do routine maintenance and haven't had any issues. I bought mine from Dave Crouch who did an 'on the road' deal, downrated to 7.5 tonnes, MOTed, registered etc. he rang me when it was ready then I just paid the money and drove it from Liecestershire to Wiltshire.
  7. You may not have to travel too far to find some Horsa part, I know someone near Trowbridge who picked up some Horsa parts near Lyneham a couple of years ago, apparently the gliders were pushed off the end of the runway after the war. The area where the parts are is outside the perimeter fence and accessible to the public. If you would like to be put in touch with him pm your phone number and I'll pass it on.
  8. World War 2 Treasure Hunters, starting Monday 9th of October at 21:00 on History Channel. Featuring Rick & Suggs in one of the episodes, the trailer for the series looks like all 8 episodes will be worth watching.
  9. Terry' you have already contacted 1 of them, Baz Barrimore and Stanley Windrush are the same person!
  10. Or you could try Stanley Windrush on this forum, he hasn't posted for a while, but I know that he has a Panhard armoured car and a lot of contacts in France.
  11. All 3 together with the Ballast Tractor in the middle.
  12. Seen over the last weekend at the Gloucestershire Steam & Vintage Extravaganza, 3 Scammell Commanders!!! One carrying a Chieftain ARV, another carrying a Mk3 Antar and the third was a Ballast Tractor
  13. All of the Land Training Fleet Land Rovers have the reflectors fixed to the body, they are fitted horizontally above the rear crossmember and outboard of the bumperettes. I believe that this is a 'construction and use' requirement that the reflectors should be mounted as close to the outer edge of the vehicle as possible.
  14. According to the latest chairmans report from Simon Johnson, the MVT CofM have someone lined up to sort out the website, maybe this new person is working on it. I will email both Simons to let them know of the problem.
  15. Rick, have you tried Aviation Jersey ltd? They might be able to help as they were the main parts supplier for the Meteor rebuild programme for Op Granby. It's just possible that they might still have some. If not, do you have the old ones? they can be rebuilt, someone who lives near to me had some rebuilt recently.
  16. According to the gov.uk (DVLA) website, unladen weight includes the body and any other parts usually fitted to the vehicle or trailer. Could I suggest that you contact your local fire brigade with regard to which license you need, one of my nieces is a full time fire fighter in York and she had to take a class C test to drive the fire appliances. With regard to hiring the vehicles out to film & tv companies I'm pretty sure that a full class C license would be required as you would be using them commercially, in other words, making money from them.
  17. I have finally found more about the Huntingdon Mosquito! It is the one that Tony Agar did an amazing job recreating, I have just found the website mossie.org and it mentions Tony collecting the fuselage from Boreham where 633 squadron was filmed and bringing it back to Huntington. This is the Mosquito that was at the Yorkshire Air Museum, Although I understand that it may be moving to The Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre.
  18. As Richard states in the second post, the rotating body was designed so that the horses could be loaded and unloaded walking forwards, remember this is a horse Ambulance, there could have been some difficulty in getting an injured horse to walk backwards.
  19. Steve, please accept my apologies for omitting you as co-author, I usually credit both of you when quoting from your excellent book. Apologies again. Regards John
  20. I saw one of these at Ashchurch last year, and asked about the camo scheme, apparently it is used in the British army training area in Kenya.
  21. It is available on Amazon, due out at £19.99, a saving of £5.01 on the list price. A search for Chris Orchard on Amazon will find it.
  22. This evening at the West Wilts MVT meeting Chris Orchard brought in the latest edition of his book, British Forces Motor Cycles that he had just received today from his publisher. This third edition has a lot more information in the frame and engine number tables, and a very interesting chapter 'Motorcycles with provenance' which includes a list dated 2nd June 1944 of motorcycles for embarkation for Provost duties, this list contains census numbers, names of riders and the unit that they were attached to! if you are lucky enough to own one of the bikes listed then you can't get better proof than this. The list was provided by the RMP museum, who have since not been able to find it. Chris Orchard has been invited to give a presentation in the authors tent at the War and Peace Revival, he will be there on the Thursday and Friday to answer questions and sign copies of his new book.
  23. This is a bit of a puzzle, according to "British Forces Motor Cycles 1925-45" by Chris Orchard & Steve Madden, the smallest capacity bike supplied to the British army by Triumph was 350cc. The frame number you have given is from a batch of 5,495 Triumph 3HWs supplied on contract C13948 between 03/04/1942 and June 1943 with frame numbers TL30923-TL36417, and allocated census numbers 886687-890052 & 4852001-4854129. There is no mention of any engine numbers beginning with 40- H2, So you have a wartime military frame with a mystery engine.
  24. Has anyone fitted an Air Suspension Seat to a Leyland Daf 4 Tonner? If so where do you connect the two pipes? I have acquired a new KAB 714 air seat that was intended to be fitted to a military vehicle although no one can remember which. The seat has a blue and a white pipe coming from the base of the seat, everyone that I have asked has never fitted an air seat to a vehicle that has not previously had one, so can't help me with a new installation. A Google search for fitting air seats doesn't help. Can anyone help?
