  1. More like too unreliable and very basic inside (similar to a 1960s British truck). I keep seeing them broken down at the roadside, l for one wouldn't like to take one across the outback! There is a Dutch dealer on Milweb also selling the same Oskosh tractor units for €45,000 which is quite a bit cheaper than Withams £65,000!
  2. SHi Gaz, I see you are from Cheshire, I have to do a delivery/collection at MOD Sealand on Thursday, is that anywhere near you? If so I could bring you some bolts up.
  3. c Have you tried 5/16 BSF? a lot of people think that BSF & UNF are the same. They have a different thread pitch and are not compatible. As your workshop body was made in Britain, probably some time ago I think that BSF fixings would have been used. If for some reason they aren't BSF, drop me a PM letting me know how many & what length you need as I still have a bucket full of bolts left over when I converted my Radio Repair body to a camper.
  4. Very frustrating, we have 1 complete old style beacon fitting, and 2 new fittings without the bush to fit in to the top of the pole, someone has bodged 1 of the new ones to fit by putting extra nuts on the threaded section, it nearly works, but it isn't right. Hopefully when the parts that we have demanded arrive we can sort it out by trial and error.
  5. Hi Diana, that one is the older on that we can no longer get, the ones that have superseded these have a threaded stalk with 2 rubber washers, 2 steel washers & 2 nuts and don't fit the Bakelite sleeve (looks like wood in the photo). These parts aren't for me but for work, I work for the LTF, part of DSG and we can't believe that the army binned all hard copies of the manuals when they computerised them, we have NSNs for the parts, but no illustrations of them which is why we would like an exploded diagram.
  6. Looking forward to seeing you there Clive, application forms can be downloaded at http://www.westwiltsmvt.co.uk
  7. Hi Diana, we have plenty of poles, but there seems to be a reducing bush that fits in the top of the pole that the beacon fitting goes in to. The big problem that we have is that the current parts list is not illustrated, so we have demanded 1 of each item on the list, except for the beacon as we have a lot of those, then we will try to put it all together. We would like an exploded diagram to check that we have demanded the correct components. John.
  8. Not a lot of help I'm afraid Clive, we have plenty of beacons & lenses, it is mainly the fittings that attach the beacon to the support pole and the wiring harness that we are having difficulty with. By the way, will you be attending Lacock at War this year? It is on the 20th & 21st of August.
  9. Hi Chris, mostly Scimitars, but also Spartans and Samsons.
  10. Help, does anyone have an exploded diagram of the component parts for the rotating amber beacon and pole fitted to CVRTs? NSNs for the components would be a great help, but we can also use the old FV numbers. We have a current parts list, but there are no illustrations of the parts, just descriptions.
  11. Hi Sam, I may have some of the elbows at work, I'll check tomorrow. john
  12. Hi Sam, Pirtek on the West Wilts trading estate might be worth trying. I could drop in next Friday and check for you. John
  13. U.S Naval ship Choctaw County, passing us in Funchal harbour in Madeira on 15th October, what is it used for? Is it a type of landing craft?
  14. Chippenham Museum and Heritage Centre are arranging a reconstruction of a First World War VAD/ Red Cross Hospital, the exhibition will, run from 5th November 2015 until 30th April 2016. the museum has contacted me to find a WW1 Ambulance for them to hire for the opening event, they haven't stipulated wether they want a motor ambulance or horse drawn, either would be wonderful. Can anyone on here help?
  15. Red section will be flying over Trowbridge park at approx 12:45, I have been told that there will be 6 Spitfires in Red section. An ideal place to see them would be on the top level of the multi storey car park off St Stevens place. Sadly I won't be able to get there, but hopefully they will fly over Warminster on their way from Salisbury.
  16. There should be a rev counter fitted, a rectangular gauge top left of the dash. If it is missing then the wiring will be there.
  17. Why do you want a tachograph, are you using it commercially? Check on the VOSA website to find out if you need one as fitting a tachograph to a Leylad Daf 4 tonner is not an easy job, they were not wired for a tachograph as the army didn't use them.
  18. I have been approached by the Officers Mess at Boscombe Down to see if I can provide some WW2 vehicles and re-enactors,preferably British, for their 75th anniversary of the Battle of Britain dinner on Thursday 17th of September. They would like the vehicles in place by 18:00 and would be free to leave at 20:00. Refreshments would be provided and there is a possibility of fuel money! If anyone is interested please contact me. As Boscombe Down is an M.O.D. establishment, I would needs registration numbers beforehand and all re-enactors would need photo I.D. Regards John
  19. Try eBay they are listed on there with a buy it now price of £1.65 about $3.00 and they will post worldwide.
  20. That was brilliant, anybody know where I can get a menu 18 ration pack?
  21. Try Dave Crouch, he has one for sale on Milweb. He is an amiable chap, and I'm sure that he would help you out.
  22. I must be going plane crazy, I've just seen 2 V22 Ospreys flying over our house heading northeast, are these based at Fairford these days? A neighbour spotted one flying over last week, we both assumed that it was going to RIAT at Fairford.
  23. Spotted yesterday at about 18:30, 2 Spitfires, probably BBMF with engines running at the end of the runway at Kemble. They were less than 100metres from the A429 unfortunately there was nowhere safe to stop as the lay by opposite the runway was full of plane spotters!
  24. According to the book "In National Service" the Rolls Royce B Series in British Military Vehicles by Pat Ware, the installed weight (dry) is 372 kg. or 818 pounds, unfortunately there is no weight given for the gearbox. I hope that this helps.
