  1. This is tough....The Phantom guarded our airspace for nearly 20 years... The Herc has being the mainstay of RAF transport command for nearly 40 years, and many left... Catalina invaluble for coastal command during WW2, The Liberator lived up to it's name....And the Gooney Bird????Where could you start. I think I will sleep on this one!!!

  6. It is good to see pictures of our friend's vehicles on manoeuvres with the army.Top man, Plain military !
  7. The 330 diesel would be the perfect solution and keep it authentic, all Bedford. Unfortunately they are a very expensive powerplant these days as many of them have been exported,to Pakistan mainly. An unserviceable one fetches £1000... But try and find one, You may get lucky!
  8. I once read somewhere that a middle eastern nation used them, too but I don't remember which one....
  9. With just rear wheel drive it will have ample traction for most situations. The time when it would be most useful is when you are climbing out of a lake or river and driven front wheels are then very advantageous.Love this project though!!
  10. Is this the actual car that Reinhard Heydrich was in when he was assasinated?
  11. Just been watching a program on Discovery called 'Killer tanks' ,in this program it states that the Panther was a desperate copy of of the T34 and a disaster. I think this is bo!!ocks. What do you think?
  12. The Leyland 401 /402 series of engines had a groove on the piston below the gudgeon pin which was for an extra oil control ring... These were only fitted on high mileage(high oil consumption!) engines. I have fitted many a set of these rings to Leyland Clydesdales in the late seventies /early eighties. The AECs never needed anything like this...Better engineering methinks...
  13. Hi Paul, I also have many thousands of pounds invested in Snap on tools but in all honesty there is nothing wrong with any of the brands you are considering. Our main cause of attrition with tools is losing them, not breaking them...
  14. For reasons like this Ford products were not allowed to be sold in Saudi Arabia during the seventies. My Father tells an amusing tale about some Ford trucks being badged Bedford to get them through the Saudi customs... Worked every time...
  15. Welcome to the forum, Pascal. You are very welcome here, we all love tank transporters and all things military generally, mon ami.
  16. I like this truck... I find it hard to believe it is nearly 65 years old!!!
  17. Very true,Adam... In Africa you cannot lose!!!
  18. I enjoy every show I go to...I never tire of shows!
  19. I completely agree, and as you say,at the beginning of the war the Matilda 2 was the best infantry tank in the world... If the tank's design could have been modified to accept a better gun then it could have stayed in the game longer. Unfortunately the turret ring was too small.
