  1. Actually, I have welled up writing this....Must be getting soft in my old age!
  2. Absolutely,Jerry it is strange how events in people's lives can alter the course of their destiny so greatly... I reckon the crash was a good thing, because if it had not happened, you would almost certainly not be on this forum :-). It reminds me of a nice old chap who was the caretaker at my daughter's dancing school. He became engaged to his sweetheart two days before leaving for the far east, a tank mechanic no less.He worked in horrible conditions on Grant tanks with aero engines and later on Sherman tanks with Detroit diesel engines. In the heat of one particular battle his entire company was reported as missing, presumed dead. Due to communications problems their safe recovery ( after 6 months! ), was not relayed back to Britain and none of his letters reached their destination... Upon return home 3 years later he was sickened to find that his fiancee was married with a child. She was very much in love with her husband and very shocked to see a ghost... everyone thought he was dead! He met a wonderful lady, fell in love and married. Sadly they could not start a family as she turned out to be infertile. He told me with tears in his eyes that he loved his wife more than anything but he often lamented losing his fiancee and the chance of a child. War is cruel in all ways... This man was in his eighties and still cries.
  3. Cummins 6 BTA.... 5.9 litres turbocharged,intercooled 210 bhp, 2800 rpm...What else?
  4. I voted for the Hercules after much soul searching.... Second choice would have been the Phantom though.... I have flown via Herky bird before and they rock....
  5. Yes, Frost's products are almost always excellent...
  6. Wow,is this a real aircraft???
  7. Wow,you found a 330... It is the right part for the job!!! Well done.
  8. I think I am with you on this one. No product of the Associated Equipment Company could be judged as the worst British vehicle of WW2...Conversley the Matador was probably the best British vehicle of WW2!!!
  9. And a fine man and one time warrior by all accounts. Rest in peace, Gunther.
  10. I use Plasti-cote black barbecue paint on motorcycle exhausts with great results. The exhaust on my Gas Gas enduro bike still looks great after 3 years. Spray can only, though...
  11. The King.... What else... King Tiger!!! Preferably with Porsche turret. Second choice Panther Ausf G... But to be truthful I don't think there is any tank that I don't like...
  12. Yes indeed, dearest Eastblock, but I think that the Soviet vehicles do have a valid place in this forum. A Zil 157 for example has as much historical value as a Reo or an RL .... These were enemy vehicles back in the day and it is strange to think that I would look at silhouettes of them, they were the ones to fire at!!! Thankfully since Glasnost etc they are now our comrades.I think they are very interesting and capable pieces of machinery.
  13. Hi all... Does anyone else think that it may be nice to have a 'Russian vehicles' section because I suspect that more than a few of us have a penchant for them.I think all military vehicles are cool and some of the former Warsaw Pact trucks are as cool as anything made in the west.... Just a thought.
  14. Hawker Typhoon, P47 D Thunderbolt, F105 Thunderchief... No maybe Focke Wulf 190, Convair B58 Hustler, Spitfire XIV ... Although English Electric Lightning, Martin B26 Marauder, A1D Skyraider... In all honesty there are three hundred warbirds that are my favourites... Good one Agripper!!!
  15. Yes Tony and some of the best bunkers I have seen are in Jersey.
  16. Hi Sandro. Another great restoration undertaken. I wish I could leave the Berna with you guys for a couple of months!!!. I used to have a Cat 951c about 20 years ago and it was a fantastic machine.
  17. I know what you mean but I have only had good experiences with Milweb... Have you looked in CMV or Classic and vintage commercials? They both have good classified sections.
  18. Puff the magic dragon, A bird of days long gone, came to fly the evening sky, in a land named Vietnam... Puff was a fire breathing, minigun totin' killing machine!!! Also known as Spooky...
  19. In all honesty C47 or Skytrain would be equally accurate... I suppose the term 'Gooney Bird' is from the 'Puff the magic dragon era'...AKA Nam which I have had a lot of interest recently. But seriously,Tony this is a toughie of which I still cannot conclude. They were all great aircraft!!!
  20. Hi Sandro,is that BPW as in the trailer manufacturer, who supplied the grease? The brakes look incredibly modern. A fine piece of engineering.
  21. Hi Jenny, welcome to the madhouse. It is nice to have a lady around the place(watch your language boys!)....
