  1. Hi mate. Thanks for the info. It was nice having a chat. I will definitely be attending as long as work doesn't put a spanner in the works.
  2. As far as I'm aware KH is the last reg used on Bedfords. KL would be a DAF??
  3. Looking at those drill holes I would say they tried to blow it up without success.
  4. Where and when is it??? Is it the guy near Old Stratford?
  5. That's not strictly the case. They also are used for STGO and wide loads. A mate of mine is a Police Officer in the Met and is in the special escort group. Before that he was traffic and firearms. I mentioned about the beacon and his "personal" view was that if an accident occured and you explained to the traffic officer in attendence that you had one working he said this should go FOR you not against you as you have showed you have done as much as you can to show you are a slow moving vehicle. He is not saying it's right or wrong, but mentioned that most officers will show common sense when investigating an accident.
  6. The TIB kit can be used for a normal flashing beacon. You get the wiring, switch, plug for the dash power terminal, etc, etc.
  7. I've got a TIB kit for a FV432, brand new in the box. I'm going to use most of it for an amber warning beacon for my MJ.
  8. I've only just come across it. Looks a real good site, I will register on there I think. I love all this abandoned history waiting to be discovered.
  9. Thought I would post a link to this very interesting forum. It's all about derelict places and has it's own Military section of derelict tanks etc. There may be a jem of a restoration just waiting to be discovered on this site. http://www.derelictplaces.co.uk/main/index.php
  10. I've been doing some research on local airfields and came across this website that had plenty of pictures of a local airfield. The guy included some pictures of this tracked vehicle. The airfield is a WW2 airfield and closed in 1950. You can still see the camo paint. Question is, what the hell is it???
  11. That has to be one of the best looking Military Vehicles around. Pitty we can't get them here...:-(
  12. I don't know why there aren't any in Afghanistan considering BAE Land Systems OMC own 75% of the company that is responsible for this serious bit of kit. Field repairable after a mine strike in a few hours is just what is needed. (By the way I meant it looked the dogs boll*cks, as in GORGEOUS!!) I'm going to see District 9 again for another fix.:-D
  13. I have loved these vehicles for years, seeing them on the news in the old South African days. I think they look the dogs. I went and saw the film "District 9" where they were featured through out the film. Question is, where can I buy one!!!??? Check it out.
  14. At the end of the day not everyone has parking for their vehicles. I don't have any "designated" parking for mine, neither do I have a driveway. Mine are parked in a parking area next to where I live, so yes they are off road. But as I own a Bedford MJ, Land Rover Defender, Toyota Hilux Surf and my missus owns a Mazda 3 Sport, there could be complaints that we are taking up too much parking space. MY argument is that they are all road legal, so what's the problem? There is a car outside that a guy owns which he doesn't drive, but has an out of date tax disc by over a year. He chains his mountain bike to one of the rear wheels at night. No tax for over a year and yet there are all these adverts on the TV about how they will crush your car if you don't tax it (it can't be classified as SORN as it's technicaly still on a public road). These are the vehicles the authorities need to take notice of. So yes I take up space, but mine are all legal. This guys vehicles might be "technicaly" breaking the law, but I think the Police have better things to do with their time than to take an interest in them, like stopping crime. The world is full of jobs worths.
  15. Very interesting. So would this have been done to all MJ's in service on rebuild? What year are we talking about. If my engine is the original then it would be 1986 (ish). Did Bedford sort this problem out at some stage or was it a continual problem? In the 8 years I did in the army we ragged plenty of Bedford MJ's and the only truck I remember having any engine trouble was one that blew a turbo. They were more or less bomb proof.
  16. I saw these Duro's some years ago in a haulage yard in South Wales (Rogerstone) awaiting transportation to their respective units.
  17. The MK and the MJ are the same trucks except the MK has a multifuel normaly aspirated diesel engine and the MJ has a turbocharged engine but is not multifuel.
  18. The National Historic Vehicle Society has a show at Basingstoke Hants on the 19th and 20th September. I spoke with the guy and he said he is down on Military Vehicle numbers this year and is hoping more will attend. So ANY forum members not doing anything this weekend who can travel to the show please have a look at the link and consider booking yourself in. It has steam, tractors, bus, trucks etc, etc. You can download and print off a booking form at the bottom of the page. http://www.nhvs.hampshire.org.uk/events.htm
  19. Stone, I was amongst other things a DROPS op in the Army. What do you want to know??:coffee:
  20. Very interesting. The Land Rover with Mija on the roof has the reg number 48 KM 28 and just today I saw exactly the same type Land Rover with the reg number 48 KM 27, what a coincidence!!!!!!
  21. Agree there. I bought mine direct. Tender stuff has a habit of changing owners before you pick it up!!!
  22. Land Rover 110 Defender. Very unusual configeration. Left hand drive, station waggon body with loads of equipment on the roof, plain green with the reg no; 48 KM 27
  23. Hi, A very big welcome to the forum. Man, that must be one of the best jobs in the world!!!! We'd love to see the photo's of these trucks. Is the site a registered war grave site, and are you able to raise any of the equipment you have found?:
  24. There is a guy I know who has just fitted a power steering kit on his truck. Brand new from the States. He has done a fantastic job and has his own business as a mechanic. Anyone interested let me know.
