  1. Lauren Child, Thanks for the reply. Since posting I have had a look at the connectors. The Big round one is marked up "Generator" and has 3 round pins. The other end is smaller and has 3 round pins (large) and 3 round pins (small), this fits into the input socket. As I haven't got a generator I had to come up with another idea and this is what I did. Next to the input socket for the generator supply is a normal 240v 3 pin socket. I bought a 40m extension reel (to reach the truck) and then cut a 5' section of cable and put a plug on each end.:stop: DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME IT'S POTENTIALLY LETHAL IF YOU TOUCH THE PINS ON THE PLUG IF YOU HAVE IT PLUGGED INTO THE MAINS BEFORE INSERTING INTO THE BOX SOCKET. I plugged it into the box socket and switched it on at the mains. Nothing happened at first as I had all the circuit breakers off etc. I switched them on one at a time and hey presto, power!!!:-D I've tried every item of equipment and all works very well... Both air conditioning units work great, very powerful and cool the box in a few minutes. The heaters also work (all part of the air con units). I only switched one unit on at a time as I didn't want to overload the cable or plugs. The NBC filtration system also works, another post on this on MV chatter. All the lights work, even the moon lights. All in all I'm pretty happy with it so far. Pictures to follow.:cool2:
  2. A big hello Clive, been a long time since I've seen you. Thanks for the info. I have just got the MOD 654 back from Withams for the box. The box has come from 9 Regt AAC Wksp REME and was received into Withams on 08/05/09. The vehicle asset code is B251502701 The designation is Transportable Container Shop Equipment Electronic Repair Radar 14 Mk1 CB365/13T Reg No 13TC29. Date into Service 01/03/77. I hope this enough information to see if you have anything on this? Thank you very much for your help, Andy
  3. I've got about 40 Yellow plastic water jerry cans for sale. Ex RAF ones. Don't know who made them though.
  4. I don't know what the paint code is, but it's just a NATO IRR green, all over. Look at the pictures of my truck to see.:cool2:
  5. Hello mate, This is the standard colour of vehicles in Canada. They also paint them the same in Cyprus. Basically a green/sand colour scheme. The roof is red for easy ID for Military Aircraft. Think the doors are black to highlight UIN's.
  6. Is anyone in the know regarding what generator was used for the "Shop Equipment Electronic Repair General Purpose TCTM 3Ton CB365/1" box body? Has anyone worked on these in the Army, if so I'd love to hear from you. Basically I need to know what generator I need to buy that can run the lights and plug sockets etc on my box. The reason I want a Military Generator is that the plug sockets seem different than the civvy versions and I don't want to start cutting things off etc. The electrics are single phase 240v 50Hz AC and also 24vDC. There is a battery tray built in and it appears that when connected to the 240v supply, the batteries are charged. This if for the lights I think when not connected to 240V??? Thanks in advance. Andy
  7. Has anyone served in the Army that has worked on the "Shop Equipment Electronic Repair General Purpose T.C.T.M. 3Ton CB.365/1? I need some help regarding the electrics in my box body. There are internal batteries, air con X2, heater, NBC filtration, and all manner of plug sockets. I want to be able to plug it in to either a generator or mains so the lights and plug sockets work. There is a reel drum with electrical cable on and a socket at each end. Do you know if one end of this is for the genny and the other that plugs into the box? Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks Andy
  8. That's a good point Stone. I will see if the plate can be unscrewed, if it can I can just take the plate with me. The only reason I can see a problem is because it's been altered, but there isn't anything on the form saying "this form should contain NO alterations" or similar. I can see what the blokes done, he has just filled out the prefix from the record book and then realised that this isn't the Bedford's chassis no, crossed out the two letters that were wrong and put in the correct ones underneath.
  9. When I picked my truck up last week I obtained the 654 for it. On the form the guy who was filling it out (at 35 Sig Regt) has made a few mistakes:shocked:. He has put the asset code down as 2091 8100 and then crossed out the 8100 and put 3105 (this is the ptarmigan system which the truck was converted to). On the chassis No he has entered MJP2BMO, then crossed out MO and put FT below it:(. MJP2BMO is the code for ALL Bedford MJ's and which is what is on the vehicle service record. The FT he has replaced it with is the actual chassis No of my truck. The number after this is correct. I raised this with Withams and they have send off for a conformation of age (or something like that) just in case DVLA query it. My question is do you think the DVLA will be funny about this? The crossed out mistakes have a single line through so you can see what they have put before. If I take my vehicle records along maybe this can back up the correct chassis number. The plate is on the side of the truck for their inspection anyway. Have any of you guys had problems like this?
  10. Yeah come to think of it I think there is a sliding bar of some description on it. Don't think it's up to much though. I always fill tanks to the brim, but 150lts is too much to loose. The best option is secure storage, which I will have to look into once she is on the road.
  11. Thanks for the replys guys. Radiomike7, you are right about putting a hole in the tank. They have got a drain plug in, so they could just undo that. I might just have to keep a small amount in the tank, with the rest in jerry cans in the body and just fill when required. Also what worries me is the batteries. I think I will take them out and leave in the body too, at least until I get secure storage for it.
  12. Does anyone know of an aftermarket fuel filler cap for a Bedford MJ that is lockable? I picked my truck up this morning and am hoping I still have fuel in it by morning due to the fact you can't lock the filler cap. The only thing you can lock is the fuel shut off leaver, and that's not exactly going to stop the fuel being nicked... We used to have lockable flaps on the DROPS. Cheers Andy.
  13. How VERY true that statement is!!
  14. Thanks for that Scammell. That makes much more sense. To be honest there is a lot people can do to help themselves. For a start DO NOT drive very slow (old) vehicles late at night. The reason behind this is that most people would have been up since morning and will be getting tired. They might be heading home after a long day at work and aren't hanging about. Driving vehicles that can't even reach 30mph at night on a major road with antiquated lighting systems is just asking for trouble. The best time would be around 4am onwards as the roads are at their quietest, the light is getting better all the time and most people you see at that time of the morning have had a decent nights sleep. Use A roads not motorways if you can help it, travel early in the morning or during the day or early evening when it's still light. Don't assume that because you have an amber warning beacon (also note there these are controlled by the Lighting regulations) that you are going to be seen. Pull over regularly to let bunched traffic overtake. Stressed out drivers stuck behind slow vehicles will do suicidal manouvours to overtake. Keep looking in your mirrors so that you know what is happening behind just as much as the front. Always have an escape plan if something decides to go wrong. Read the road ahead as far as can be seen. Think for other drivers and expect them to make unexpected manouvours. Keep a camera phone or camera on the vehicle in case of an accident (you will need those photo's). I could go on, but I wont bore you to death.
  15. Don't forget the front tyre blowout. I've also seen a super single come off a trailer and bomb over the central reservation bouncing at over 50mph (it overtook the truck it came off) onto the opposing carriageways hard shoulder. Always expect the unexpected.
  16. Hello mate. Very nice looking truck. I'm very jealous as you have the facilities to strip that baby down to the bare chassis and re-build. A good bit of shot blasting should do the trick. At £400 you could fork out and get the engine rebuilt and still have a bargain.
  17. There is a Helicopter Support 110 TUM at Withams for sale for £5,500 +vat. I had a look around it and have to say it was in brand new condition. The cleanest one I have ever seen. Would be a good vehicle for someone.
  18. I don't think it is mate. But at the end of the day all that happened was the woman broke down. Why does it need a load of WW2 Military vehicles to pull up and help out? That's why the Highways Agency has traffic officers on patrol and I'm sure she had a mobile and used the phone on the motorway. When I was in the Army there was an incident in Germany when a mini bus broke down and pulled up on the hard shoulder. A truck ploughed into the back of it with the people still in it. It killed 3 soldiers. The hard shoulder is the last place you want to be, especially if there is nothing wrong with your vehicle.
  19. Why are they stopping on the hard shoulder? Woman in a broke down car or not, that's against the law. That's what the Highways Agency Traffic officers are for.:nono:
  20. I would mate, coz if you are driving it in your line of work, you might be on dodgy ground. If you need an HGV licence to drive it, and your using it for work then I would definitely ring them up.
  21. COOL, no MOT required!!! I haven't seen any restriction on headroom for trucks in the UK in the regs. So I should be OK even though I have bought the smaller comms body out of the two different heights available.
  22. I did all that in my test, but a hi/low box on an artic is a bit different than a Bedford tranny. Still, if your not taking your test in that you don't have to worry. I passed my test and was driving artics two weeks later. An old Seddon Atkinson split windscreen twin turbo. Cold as the Arctic tho...:shake:
  23. Well, I was down there today and had a chat with the guys down at Newbury VOSA station. I have been given a number to call, Swansea Tech. Apparently, I need to have a chat with this guy in Swansea, who will send me these forms that I need to fill in. One of them I think is a "Notification of alteration". This is because I am converting the comms body to a motor caravan. The guy at VOSA did confirm that if I go the motor caravan route the truck will not require under run protection, rear bumper or tacho. After I fill these form out i "think" he said I have to send them back to Swansea where the Tech guy will go through them, then send them to Newbury VOSA. I then take the truck there for an inspection of the work carried out and they will do an MOT at the same time. Just need to collect the truck so that I can get on with the conversion.
  24. Hi Stone, These are the only exemptions. What are the exemptions? You don’t need a Driver CPC if the vehicle you drive is • Not authorised to exceed 45 kph • Being used by or under the instructions of the armed forces, the police or a fire and rescue authority. • Undergoing road tests for technical development repair or for maintenance purposes. • Being used in a state of emergency as part of a rescue mission. • Being used for driving lessons for either driving licence or Driver CPC purposes. • Not being used to carry passengers or goods for commercial purposes. • Carrying materials or equipment for your work and that work is not professional bus, coach or lorry driving. You MIGHT qualify for the last exemption. You will need to speak with the Driver Standards Agency to find out for sure. here is the contact address. Driving Standards Agency Driver CPC Stanley House 56 Talbot Street Nottingham NG1 5GU 0115 9015879 Hope this helps mate?
